I have a marriage license for John M. Smith (43 Widowed) married Margaret Black (26) 21 July 1867. He was born in Augusta County and his parents names were James & Sarah Smith. > He had two children Andrew Jackson b. 29 July 1968 and Sallie E. b.30 Sept. 1871. If he had any by his first marriage I haven't found them. There was a Sherman listed on the 1880 census. > The family Bible does not mention he or Margaret. I got his name from a cousin and she didn't have anything but his name and that he had a step-son, William Armstrong. > I have checked the Courthouse in Lexington and found his name listed in a land book with my grandfather, but he was living on 2 acres of the land. > My Mother said he was buried in Collierstown Cemetery, but I can't find anything there. The tombstone may have been damaged or maybe there was never one put up. I found Margaret buried there but could not locate John. Margaret died in 1913 and was living with Mary Green's family, according to the 1910 census. > I contacted the Health Department but without a month, day or year they cannot help me. > > That is about it, I think. > Any help you can provide will be very much appreciated. > > Thank you, > Faye >
