Does anyone have relatives that may have lived in the Brushy Creek area of Rockbridge during the time period of 1880 to 1910? Would like to know about it's history. In researching the tax, land records and deeds of the county I found that my great-grandfather S.E. MARTIN lived there for many years, at least from abt.1885 to his death in March of 1904. However, I could find no evidence that he actually owned the property he lived on. His very small estate was committed to Sheriff Thomas A. Sterrett for administration in August of 1904 by his son Wm. E. Martin, who also lived on Brushy Creek. What would have happened to that estate? I would think it had to be sold or distributed to heirs, however, there seems to be no further record at the courthouse on it. Any thoughts on this would be apprecitated. Thank you, Phyllis
Also of Martin, Hall, maybe Ellis line. Perhaps we should share notes? Have known ancestors from Rockbridge in Sale, McCorkle lines. Not sure where all Martins came from. Some from South Carolina. Some from Warren County. Not sure where Warren County line came out of, but believe Rockbridge is likely.
