To further clarify, the Mill Creek John who died in 1762 was the son of Robert Davison and his wife Ann (prob. Dunlop). Robert was b. 1690, immigrated to US in 1735 and his will was proven 29 Aug 1751. He mentions wife Ann, son John Davison, and daughter Mary Huston. Some records show this Mary as Margaret or Margaret Mary Davison, wife of Robert Huston/Houston. Robert's son John (1720-1762) married Elizabeth (possibly Houston). There has been a good deal of confusion concerning this John Davidson and the "Importation" John Davidson with wife Jane. The confusion stems from a History of Rockbridge Co. by Dr. George West Diehl. Dr. Diehl blends the two Johns into one person causing great confusion for future genealogists. In reality, the John Davidson with wife Jane and sons George, Thomas, Wm, and Samuel did come through Orange Co, VA and moved on to NC. Among additional children (according to Robert Hand's 1990 book "Davison/Davidson Family: The Descendents of William and Elizabeth Davison of County Armagh, Ireland) was John "One-Eyed" Davidson (1744-1825) m. Ruth Clement. A John Davidson (1743-1780) who married Sarah "Sally" Gillham in 1765 is also listed as a descendent of John & Jane. Back to the Mill Creek John (1720-1762). His will identifies only his wife Elizabeth and 4 children and says he died "suddenly of a colick and departed this life the 11th of April, 1762". Subsequent court documents identify 3 of the children as Ann (m. John McKeemey), John, and Samuel. In 1793 the will of William Davidson mentions his brothers John and Samuel and sister Ann McKemmey. William seems to be the 4th child. Elizabeth Davidson's will was probated in 1813 in Rockbridge Co. and she names her sons John and Samuel, John McKemmey, and her grandchildren- Samuel's 7 children. Now-what about this John, son of John & Elizabeth? The only certain thing we know is that his mother Elizabeth was living with him in Rockbridge in 1813 when she died. Her will does not mention a wife or children for him at all but he did receive the bulk of her estate. Most researchers seem to think that this John was born 29 Oct 1757 and served in the Rev. War and died in 1832. An old source of my fathers, Mr. Townsend, said that this John married Jove Andrews. Other sources have him marrying Sarah Rootes (not this John) and still others show him married to Mary Thompson. I have found no documentation to support the Jove Andrews marriage. This John is not the John who married Sarah Rootes-that John died in 1798. This John may have married Mary Thompson, a dau. of Joseph & Mary, in Rockbridge Co -bond issued 31 Dec 1787. This John Jr needs more attention. There was a 2nd set of Johns-father & son- in nearly the same area at nearly the same time. This is the Collier's Creek John- John Sr and wife Mary and son John Jr and wife Sarah Rootes. John Sr may have been born in Ireland and served in the VA Militia in 1742 from Augusta Co. The two couples sold land in 1775 to William Davidson. John Jr died in 1798 and left a will which names his wife Sarah and children John (infant), Daniel (married Phebe Harrison), Agnes (wife of John Dougherty), Elizabeth (wife of Obadiah Tankersley), and minors Margaret, Mary, and Sarah. Sarah later married John Lyle Shaw. Other John Davidsons: John Davidson b 1782 was a son of Samuel and Elizabeth "Betsy" Gilmore Davidson. (Samuel was a son of John 1720-1762 and Elizabeth). This John Davidson married Elizabeth Goodbar Erwin, widow of Robert Erwin, Jr in 1807. They had 4 sons, none named John, and they all moved to Illinois. John Davidson's widow Sarah married William Morrison in 1751. What John is this? What John Davidson (or Johns) were the father(s) of Sarah "Sally" Davidson who married James Gilmore in 1784 and Jinny Davidson married William Davidson in 1798. Both of these young ladies were from Rockbridge and both have a Gilmore connection which I think puts them in the Kerr's Creek area and somehow ties them to the Robert to John line. There is also this John Davidson marriage in Rockbridge: John Davidson & Sally McCrea on 8 Jan 1801. This John is the son of William- which William? Any input anyone? Debbie
