    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Reed, Wilson Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/4BC.2ACI/681.1497 Message Board Post: Hi, Lucy! If your very generous offer to do lookups from your copy of "Scotch-Irish Settlements in Virginia, 1745-early 1800s" is still open, I'd very much appreciate some help with my "brick wall" -- my g-g-grandfather, Alexander REED. I am desperate (after 22 years of searching!) to locate proof of his parentage. I don't think he's connected (or at least not very closely, if at all) to the prominent Andrew REID/Samuel McDOWELL family of Rockbridge Co. VA. Nor is my Alexander the same person as Alexander Walker REED (b. 1825 Sevier Co. TN, d. 1894 Washington Co. AR), though I think they may have been 1st cousins, and am certain they were both in Washington Co. AR at the same time. Recently, I've been pursuing the possibility that my Alexander is a son of Hugh J. REED (b.c. 1794 Rockbridge VA) s/o Alexander REED (b. 1748 PA, d. Jul 1816 Rockbridge VA) s/o Robert REED Sr. (b. 1720 Ulster, Ireland, d. Feb 1794 Augusta, VA) s/o John REED (b.c. 1690/95 Ulster, Ireland). If I'm right, then this Hugh J. REED is a brother of Alexander Walker REED's father, Robert REED (b. 1788 Augusta Co. VA, d. 1861 Washington Co. AR), who m. Elizabeth FAGALA (b. 1802 PA, d. 1897 Washington Co. AR). Most of this extended REED family seems to have migrated to Washington Co. AR together in the mid-19th century, by way of Knox Co. TN and Whitfield/Murray Co. GA (including my Alexander, and his wife and eldest son from GA on; their next 4 or 5 children were b. in AR, and the last 2 were b. in Polk Co., MO). I'm considering the possibility of this connection to Hugh J. REED because the eldest son of my Alexander (1828-1871) and his wife Winiford Stockburger (b. 1830 NC, d. 1870 MO) was Hugh Wilson "Wils" Reed; this son might have been given his first name for his paternal grandfather. As for the "Wilson" part of this son's name, there's a chance that "Wils" Reed's paternal grandmother (the spouse of Hugh J. Reed) was surnamed WILSON -- but I'm not at all sure of this; only a guess. I do hope you can help, and certainly appreciate your time. Regards, Bettyann P.S. I have a Sarah CHURCH (b.c. 1760 NC) in my files, w/o Jeremiah WOLLARD (b.c. 1750 Beaufort Co., NC). I also have a couple of MULLINS men who married into my STANDLEY line: 1) Bowker "Buck" MULLINS (b.c. 1780/85 prob. VA) marr. bond 12 May 1803 Franklin Co. VA to Judith "Judy" STANDLEY (b.c. 1789 Henry or Franklin Co. VA). And 2) William MULLINS (b.c. 1750) m. Nancy 'Jane' STANDLEY (b. 1756 Orange Co. VA; she was the aunt of the Judy STANDLEY named just above). And finally, I have a family by the name of HOBBS whose children were all born in and lived in Giles Co. VA, descending from Thomas Jefferson HOBBS (b.c. 1805 VA?) s/o James HOBBS (b.c. 1775) and Mary DILLARD (b.c. 1780). Wife of Thos. J. HOBBS was Julina DUNCAN (b. 1813 Giles Co. VA, d. bef. 1852 Giles Co., VA). I have the names of 11 of the HOBBS/DUNCAN children, and a couple of their spouses. If any of the above info fits into your search, please don't hesitate to contact me for whatever other details I can provide. Again, many thanks.
