Va. to James Hamilton and Susan Harlow, he was one of 12 children. In 1866 he married Susan V. Ramsey born circa 1850 to Joshua M. Ramsey and Nancy Steele, they had 6 children: John W. born circa 1869, James William, Delilah, Susan, Marcellous and Claiborne. After the death of Susan, Jacob married Edithey Larman in 1875 and had another 15 children.
