The only coincidence that I came up with is that John BUCHANAN is listed on the 1840 Rockbridge Co. census with a son the age of James. Also there are similar names, for example James W. Buchanan had a son named Rice and I have seen a John Rice listed as another son of John and Rhoda. Thanks again for sharing!/
