    3. I got this recommendation on two of my lists today. I heard on another list that someone had recently visited a site that was recommended on a rootsweb list and it caused serious computer problems. Because it is so easy to forge headers, we need to know whose recommendation we are accepting and what for. This generic recommendation is very vague -- how is a "UK" based site going to benefit VA searchers. And I don't know the sender. Does anyone else? 3. I am also interested in Isaac Anderson (and his son who went to Tennessee). I read a book about a year ago, purchased in one of the Civil War battlefield bookstores, that told of Isaac Anderson (TN) and his descendents. They are involved in the establishment of Maryville College in Maryville, TN, among other things. I will find the book in the next couple of days and return with its title. There is also a reference to Isaac Anderson (TN) in Chalkley, "History of the Scotch-Irish (in Augusta County, VA, I think is the title). 3. Come to Fincastle Library's first Genealogy Research Class! Rena Worthen, Founder and President of the Craig - Botetourt Genealogy Club, will teach you the basics of how to start tracing your roots. You'll get help deciding what part of the family to work on, where to find information about them, and learn basic computer skills that will make your research as fun and easy as possible. The first class will feature Courthouse research. Loretta Caldwell will speak to us about what can be found in the courthouse. She will provide a sketch of where material is located; give guidance on making our trip to the courthouse successful. Once you're done, you can make copies of what you've found for your all your friends and relatives. Family trees make great Christmas and birthday gifts, and you might just find you're related to someone famous! Surnames: Saville, McCorkle Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/4BC.2ACI/2116.1.1 Message Board Post: Thanks for the info! Do you have any information on how Diana is reflected in the 1850 and 1840 censuses? The only Jacob Saville that I can find in those listings does not seem to be her father. I have information that WAL and Diana travelled to Washington State via the isthmus of Panama. That would make sense given the quickness of their trip, and given that WAL returned to Virginia to marry her by that route. Baby Francess only lived to be two. She died is buried in a plot with her mother and father in Catlin Pioneer Cemetary in Kelso (Cowlitz), Washington. Sincerely, Nancy McC. Miller

    3. Botetourt County was formed in 1770 from Augusta County. We are fortunate to have records intact from that time. NO FIRE has damaged our records. There are two genealogist on staff at the courthouse to aid in your research. Fincastle is the county seat of Botetourt County. The Fincastle Library was remodeled last year and expanded to include a Genealogy room. There are holdings in the room unique to any other Genealogy Room. Two being the Brugh Collection and the Kessler Collection. These were donated by researchers and only Fincastle library has them. The Craig-Botetourt Genealogy Club was founded by Rena Worthen in 2000 after completion of the Botetourt County Heritage Book. The group will also aid in your research. Their address is [email protected] The club will be giving free Genealogy Research Classes on the 3rd Wednesday of each month starting in April. The first speaker will tell us about Courthouse Research. She brings with her years of experience in first source research.
