Have either of you seen the book "Related Families of Botetourt County Virginia" by J. William Austin and Rebecca Austin? There's a writeup on some Saville families including the family of which you speak. This article says Diana & William McCorkle migrated to the Cowlitz River Valley in Oregon. There's brief information on the 13 children they had. There's also much other discussion of related Saville families. I believe the book is still available for purchase - take a look at the Botetourt County Gen web site. It may have info on purchase. This is just a little info to add to your discussion. Good luck! I found some new information about my Smith family that I wanted some folks to take a look at. Basically it's new info. on the family that intermarried with the three siblings of my great-grandmother, Celia Agnes Smith. Click on this link and you can follow them to the new data. It appears that the Higginses that intermarried with my aunts and uncle are descended from a Rachel J. Smith and I was curious to know if they were already related to my Smith family. http://maverick.tuscaroras.com/inlines/smith/rachel/ (P.S. I was subscribed to this mailing list but somehow became unsubscribed. Probably let my mailbox get too full or something. Anyhow, I have some families that I descend from in the Rockbridge County area on this webpage: http://maverick.tuscaroras.com/inlines/ I have been attempting to either verify or disprove the claims of Indian ancestry that exist on my mother's side of the family. I have some suspect families that I believe have claims of Indian ancestry in these records. If anyone can connect with these families please let me know. ~Mike~ Webmaster of the following sites: The Robert Mackay Clan http://www.robertmackayclan.com/ Maverick's Corner http://maverick.tuscaroras.com/ Hopewell Centre Meeting http://hopecentre.quaker.org/ McKay Chimney Specialists http://www.mckaychimney.com/ _________________________________________________________________ Best Restaurant Giveaway Ever! Surnames: Davidson, Davison, Baker, Thompson, Thomson Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/4BC.2ACI/2095.2 Message Board Post: It now looks like the William Davi(d)son who married Martha Baker may have come into Prince Edward County, VA out of Buckingham County, VA (probably from a Davi(d)son family that was in Goochland and Cumberland Counties before that). William died in Botetourt County in 1812 (I now have his will), but he apparently had a home in Rockbridge County, VA about 1775-1781 (later owned by some of Martha's relatives, the Thom(p)sons) and eventually owned by one of her sons, the Reverend Andrew Baker Davidson). It looks like William and Martha had Baker, Andrew Baker, William, Jr., Joseph, probably Thomas and maybe John (as well as several daughters). I'm still trying to determine for sure who William's parents were, but a William, Edward and David Davison joined the militia in PECo in the 1770s and all of them, plus two additional Williams (a senior and a junior), appear to have been in Buckingham County before that. I believe that one of the three Williams from Buckingham marrie! d Martha Baker.
There are three libraries that have genealogy collections in Rockbridge. The Rockbridge Regional Library on Main Street has a good collection including family histories and all the newspapers on microfilm going back to the early 1800s. The Rockbridge Historical Society (located on Washington Street across from the Visitors Center) has some main reference books, copies of their historical journal and publications and copies of the published births, deaths, and marriage collections. They also have several good maps, including the original settlers of the Borden Grant and an 1870 engineering map of the County which includes the names of households and their locations. However, the vast part of their collection is housed in Leyburn Library Special Collections at Washington and Lee University. This include the Diehl Collection, a local genealogist and historian which is a collection of all his notes on the families he researched. From another list -- something you might want to know. ----- Original Message ----- Sent: Monday, May 03, 2004 11:25 AM Subject: Ancestry.com to sell Family Tree data If you have submitted a family tree to Ancestry.com, you might want to know of the change about to be implemented by them. The Family Trees that have been donated to Ancestry for free distribution to other researchers are about to be sold by subscription: the OneWorldTree Preview cost will be $49.95 for 14 months. If you'd prefer that your information was not sold, there is a link below which will take you to a set of instructions on opting out by deleting your tree. After clicking on the link and arriving at the page, click on "What's a preview?" near the top of the page. Read thoroughly and then click on "View our checklist" (which appears on #3). Among other things, you will see the following sentence: "If for any reason you do not want your tree to be part of the new OneWorldTree service, you must delete it from the Ancestry World Tree database by tentatively May 21, 2004." This is the link: http://www.ancestry.com/search/rectype/trees/owt/

I found WAL's probate in Cowlitz County at the Courthouse. Diana died first, but she is mentioned in the document. Her middle initial there is "F" -- although I see how someone might mistake it for a "T". Some later document might correct me, but "F" makes sense, as their first daughter was named Frances and their first son was named John William after WAL. The adventure continues . . .
