    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Davidson, Davisson, Rootes, Campbell, Harrison, Thompson, Thomson Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/4BC.2ACI/1756.2.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Thanks Debbie. Per our subsequent E-mails, there appears to be two corrections/updates needed: 1. The Daniel Davi(d)(s)son who married Pheobe Harrison is not the Daniel Davidson in your post. The Daniel Davidson who married Pheobe was the son of a Josiah Davi(d)(s)son out of NJ (an apparently unrelated family). 2. Unless Chalkey's transcription is incorrect (which is certainly possible; he seems to have incorrectly reversed which John married Mary versus which John married Sarah), John Davidson Senior (who I now understand married Mary) and John Davidson Junior (died in 1798 and who I now understand married Sarah), sold land to William Campbell in 1775, not to William Davidson. Note: I also understand that the other "set of John Davidsons" was the John who died in 1762 (married Elizabeth) and his son John who was born in 1757 (possibly married Mary Thom(p)son). Thanks for all of your help!

Note: It appears that Chalkley has the above wives incorrectly "interchanged." John-married Elizabeth; this John died 1762 John-Mary Thom(p)son (per some records); this John was born 1757.

    3. Hi I have posted this site before, the Library of Congress has an image of a map of Rockbridge Co around the civil war era. The map is labeled with many of the names of the residents who occupied the area at the time. The site is worth checking out. http://lcweb2.loc.gov/ammem/gmdhtml/gmdhome.html On the opening page click on Subject index, scroll down to "United States - Virginia--Fairfax County", click on that, on the next page scroll down to "United States- Virginia- Rockbridge County", Click on that one to get the map to come up, you can download, print, or zoom in to browse it. The only coincidence that I came up with is that John BUCHANAN is listed on the 1840 Rockbridge Co. census with a son the age of James. Also there are similar names, for example James W. Buchanan had a son named Rice and I have seen a John Rice listed as another son of John and Rhoda. Thanks again for sharing!/

    2. TracingMyRoots
    3. Sam, We may be related. I have traced my GILMORE family back to my great-grandparents, Andrew Jackson GILMORE (1830-1895) & wife Mary Ann GILBERT (1834-1904) of Rockbridge Co, VA. Cant' find Andrew's parents yet.....but they may be your Robert GILMORE & Margaret BRADLEY. There are several clues that I have about your Robert GILMORE which indicate he may be my Andrew Jackson GILMORE's father. One is that Andrew's oldest daughter was named Margaret & his oldest son was named Robert Lee GILMORE (my grandfather). Write to me for more details. Do you know who Robert GILMORE & Margaret BRADLEY's children were? I found the Robert GILMORE you mentioned in the Rockbridge Co VA Death Register 1853-1870 death index. According to it, he was 75 when he dies in 1855.....which would make his birth year about 1780. He was born in Ireland. I can email the copy from the book if you want it. Let's trade info! Ok??? I'm going to the Rockbridge Co Court House on Tuesday (Aug 10, 2004). Let's correspond before then ok? I have not found any one item that points James W. Buchanan (b. February 04, 1822) to John & Rhoda Corby Buchanan. I also have not found anything that contradicts this relationship either. But there are quite a few "coincidences" that pop up in the marriage and census data of other family members that works at confirming my beliefs.
