    3. Well folks....I've FINALLY gotten a great start on the Southwest Times Newspaper Historic Archives for Southwest Virginia. http://www.rootsweb.com/~vapulask/swtimes/ This page represents years of work and will be an ongoing project so be sure and check back often. The most extensive datbase to date is the obituary collection. In case you would like to share the link with others be sure and mention that it covers more than just Pulaski County. The Southwest Times in the early years covered news from most of Southwest Virginia. Have fun and good luck in your searches! Tami Ramsey I am sending this instead of Forward. I hope it will shed some light on a dead end. This was a lot of work. Heads up to Tami. 1. BRICK WALL - parents of Andrew Jackson GILMORE (1830-1895)
    2. TracingMyRoots
    3. Need some advice on where else to look for the parents of Andrew Jackson GILMORE (born abt 1830, died Dec 29, 1895, Rockbridge Co, VA). From his marriage to Mary Ann GILBERT in 1852, to when he died 1895, he lived in Rockbridge Co. VA. He was a poor farmer & carpenter. I've documented that info, but don't know where he was before 1852. 1880 census says his father was born in Ireland, mother in VA. I do not know who his siblings were. Here's where I've looked already, without finding any answers & without finding any clues. 1. census records - found him back to 1860. 2. obit does not list parents or other family members except wife 3. wills at the Rockbridge Co court house--no will for him 4. his marriage record - records for that year were burned 5. birth records- none for that year 6. property records - no property records for him 7. church records were stolen by a woman who is not affiliated with the church. Church has attempted get them back. I've also contacted her, but she refuses to let me see the records. (a very bizarre situation!!!) 8. Rockbridge Co. library has no documents on him. 9. Rockbridge Co Historical Society has no records on him. A possible clue.....I've found a Robert GILMORE living in Rockbridge Co (born in Ireland abt 1780, died 1855), wife Margaret H (born in VA)....dates & birthplaces fit! These could be Andrew Jackson GILMORE's parents, but I have no proof....only some clues. Other clues are..... Andrew's oldest son was named Robert, & oldest daughter was named Margaret. In the 1860 census, there is list of children for Margaret H. GILMORE, widow, and based on the birthdates of those children, Andrew Jackson GILMORE could be one of their children. But, Andrew was not listed with the children because he was married by then. Thanks for your help! 3. This was passed on to me from another list... interesting images of Amherst County and others the Library of Congress has an image of a map of Rockbridge Co around the civil war era. The map is labeled with many of the names of the residents who occupied the area at the time. The site is worth checking out. http://lcweb2.loc.gov/ammem/gmdhtml/gmdhome.html On the opening page click on Subject index, scroll down to "United States - Virginia--Fairfax County", click on that, on the next page scroll down to "United States- Virginia- Rockbridge County", Click on that one to get the map to come up, you can download, print, or zoom in to browse it.

So you think that Hannah Young and William Corby are Rhoda Corby Buchanan's parents. It also would tie in with Rhoda's son, James William Buchanan, being named after his grandfathers. Thank you for your help. Can you share any other info from the Buchanan clan book? I am researching my husband's line, he is descended from James William Buchanan through his son Alfred A. L. Buchanan, who was born in Carroll County Missouri about 1866.
