All of these folks are in Rodkbridge cty.

In regards to the posts on Vest & Hostetter-- Does anyone have any further details on the Hostetters--mainly Ulrich Hostetter, Jr. who had a wife Elizabeth. Does anyone know her maiden name? The Hostetters came down from PA. where we find them being sponsors for PLOTT children. After they got to Rockbridge, we find them at PLOTT weddings so someone suggested to me that they may be related to the Plotts. Any thoughts are appreciated. Doris Snyder

Surnames: Davidson, Thompson, Thomson, Davison Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/4BC.2ACI/2185 Message Board Post: 1. A Rockbridge County, VA marriage book shows Mary Thompson married John Davidson in 1787. Mary Thompson's parents are shown as JOSEPH and Mary Thompson. I cannot seem to "find" this JOSEPH Thompson in the Thompson family, however, and I wonder if that should have said JOHN and Mary Thompson (any idea)? A Mary Davidson was listed in the 1824 Augusta County, VA will of Alexander Thompson (along with several of his nieces and nephews; this Alexander Thompson had TB and never married). A John Davidson was one of the executors of that will (along with a John Thompson). I suspect that the Mary Davidson listed in the will was Mary (Thompson) Davidson and that the John Davidson listed in the will as an executor was her husband (and hence, the same people who were married in 1787). Alexander Thompson was a descendant of Reverend John Thom(p)son and his first wife Margaret Osborne and also a descendant of the Reverend's son John Thompson, Senior and his wife Margaret Phair. ! Alexander's father was apparently John Thompson, Junior, son of the above John Thompson, Senior. Does anyone know who JOSEPH Thompson was or if he should have been listed as JOHN Thompson, father of Mary Thompson? Note: The John Davidson who married Mary Thompson was in the Rev. War, and I believe that he was living in Botetourt County, VA when he joined the service. He appears to have been born in 1757, and he was the son of an earlier John Davidson (died 1762) and his wife Elizabeth (these Davidsons originally lived on Mill Creek and should not be confused with another father/son pair of John Davidsons, who married a Mary and a Sarah, who lived on Collier's Creek). 2. In 1781 in Rockbridge County, VA, a John Thompson bought the home of William and Martha (Baker) Davidson. Note: Martha's mother was born Jane Thompson, a daughter of Reverend John Thompson and a relative to many, if not all, of the Thompsons in the Augusta/Rockbridge/Botetourt County, VA areas. A few years later, a Thomas Thompson bought the same home. A few years later, a Dorothy Thompson bought the same home (Dorothy married a Samuel Kinnerly, as I recall). Does anyone know who the Thompsons who bought this home were? Note: Reverend Andrew Baker Davidson, a son of William and Martha (Baker) Davidson, was the next owner of the home after Dorothy (Thompson) Kinnerly. 3. A William Davidson married a Jinny Davidson in January 1799 in Rockbridge County, VA. Does anyone have any information on these two people? Based on the date, it is POSSIBLE that this William was William Davidson, Junior, a son of William Davidson and Martha (Baker) Davidson (who had moved from Rockbridge to Botetourt well before 1799) and the brother of Reverend Andrew Baker Davidson. Jinny Davidson, however, was almost certainly from a different Davidson family (there were SEVERAL apparently unrelated Davidson families in the Augusta/Rockbridge/Botetourt County area in the 1700s. Any/all help on any of the above will be greatly appreciated.

There was a John Thompson who was deeded the home of William and Martha (Baker) Davidson in 1781 in Rockbridge County, VA. The home was next deeded to a Thomas Thompson, after which it was deeded to a Dorothy Thompson (who married a Samuel Kinnerly, as I recall). Do you know who these Thompsons were? Martha (Baker) Davidson's mother was Jane (Thompson) Baker, a daughter of Reverend John Thompson (he was in Prince Edward County, VA before moving to NC) and his first wife Margaret Osborne. Jane (Thompson) Baker was a sister to John Thompson, Senior who went to Campbell County, VA. William and Martha (Baker) Davidson then moved to Botetourt County, VA, and they both died there (William died in 1812 and Martha apparently died between 1820 and 1830). Please also note that a Mary Thompson married a John Davidson in 1787 in Rockbridge County, VA. This John Davidson served in the Rev. War and lived in Botetou! rt for a while, but he does NOT appear to be related to the aforementioned William Davidson and his family. His wife Mary (Thompson) Davidson, however, WAS a descendant of the same Thompson family referenced herein (and hence, was related to William Davidson's wife Martha (Baker) Davidson, whose mother Jane was a Thompson). A Rockbridge County, VA marriage book shows Mary (Thompson) Davidson's parents as JOSEPH and Mary Thompson. I cannot seem to find a Joseph Thompson in this family, and I wonder if that should have been JOHN and Mary Thompson? Any help with the Thompsons in Rockbridge and Botetourt Counties would be appreciated.
