There is a story in my family that, during the Civil War, my great-great-grandfather was taken prisoner (by whom, I don't know), and my great-great-grandmother and the children who were still living at home were murdered. I would like to either prove or disprove this legend. In 1860 John and Sarah (Jones) Thomas and six of their children were living in the Dumfries area. I have not been able to find a census entry for John and/or Sarah in 1870. The Thomases had at least ten children, possibly more. The known ones are: Susan Born ca 1834 William 1836 Elizabeth 1838 A son with an unreadable name beginning with the letter "L" 1843 Martha 1846 Mary 1846 Sarah 1848 (my great-grandmother) Virginia 1849 Louisa 1853 Gustavus 1857 Does anyone know of Thomas family gravesites in the Dumfries area? I would like to hear from any possible descendants. Thank you for your help. Shelley Hundertmark Brighton, Michigan
