Hello list members! I need some help please! My cousins visited a cemetery where Copen family are buried at Quantico. They said the last letter "N" was backward....does anyone know why??? Your question prompts a question from me. I have visited a number of grave yards on Quantico Marine Base and in the Prince William Forest Park which abuts the Marine Base. You see a lot of what we today would call "Homemade" markers. These folk did not always have the money to pay for a professionally carved stone. The mistakes were also cause by the fact that the carvers did have much call to carve headstones and either couldn't print correctly or simply made mistakes. Nearly every old family cemetery has mistakes like you describe.
