    3. One of my ancestors, Bernard J. Hooe, died at Rippon Lodge on April 10, 1810, "within a short time" (says my source) after being wounded in a duel. Bernard was "prominent in local political affairs and represented Prince William County in the state legislature." He had a "political quarrel" with a neighbor, James Kemp, in which he struck Mr. Kemp with a whip. This brought about the duel, which took place across the Potomac on the Maryland shore. Bernard was mortally wounded and brought to Rippon Lodge, "the home of Col. Thomas Blackburn," where he died. He had "eight children, most of whom were minors at the time of their father's death." I don't know any more about the duel or Col. Blackburn, but I appreciate the information about the status of Rippon Lodge. More details, anyone? Please respond to the list, as this is interesting for everyone, I think. Polly Zashin looking for information on the Blackburn Family Connected to the Rippon > Lodge House For Sale > > > >
