Anne, The book is "The Selecman Family" a history of Henry Selecman and his wife, Margaret Harmon, of Occoquan, Virginia and their descendants, and items dealing with families related to them. It was written by Redmond Selecman Cole and published in 1942. The page your information was on was 51. I don't know if this book is available anymore, I was sent the book by a Fisher cousin about a year ago and had a copy made of it. If you have any other questions regarding the family I would be more than happy to pass it on to you. Maggie
Thank you anyway, Sherry. I appreciate your time. Sorry Anne, I don't know why I called you Lynn.... must mean I'm getting older, anyway Jane and Frederick were married October 18, 1859. I'm sure with all the researchers out their in knowledge of the Selecman Book you should get all the info on this particular family you would like! Maggie again
Lynn, According to the Selecman Family History written in 1940 after 50 years of research on this family and related families(of which I am of the Fisher branch) Jane Elizabeth was the daughter of William Rufus and Margaret Selecman . William was born in 1800 and Margaret 1813. Both were born in Fairfax Va. and also were cousins. Their children listed in order; Sarah Jane -1830 Ann Virginia -1834 Thomas Henry -1837 Jane Elizabeth -1839 George -1845 William Redmond -1846 John -1849 Edgar Snowden -1851 James Andrew -1854 Hope this is a help to you Maggie

One of my ancestors, Bernard J. Hooe, died at Rippon Lodge on April 10, 1810, "within a short time" (says my source) after being wounded in a duel. Bernard was "prominent in local political affairs and represented Prince William County in the state legislature." He had a "political quarrel" with a neighbor, James Kemp, in which he struck Mr. Kemp with a whip. This brought about the duel, which took place across the Potomac on the Maryland shore. Bernard was mortally wounded and brought to Rippon Lodge, "the home of Col. Thomas Blackburn," where he died. He had "eight children, most of whom were minors at the time of their father's death." I don't know any more about the duel or Col. Blackburn, but I appreciate the information about the status of Rippon Lodge. More details, anyone? Please respond to the list, as this is interesting for everyone, I think. Polly Zashin looking for information on the Blackburn Family Connected to the Rippon > Lodge House For Sale > > > >
Howdy: According to information that I have come across in my genealogical research of the Bland Family of Virginia, Samuel Phillips Lee was a Rear Admiral in the U. S. Navy and Blair Lee was a Senator from Maryland from 1913 to 1917. They both were descendants of Richard Henry Lee (1732-1794). Thomas Lee the father of Richard Henry was the brother of the Henry Lee who married Mary Bland, daughter of Col Richard Bland and Elizabeth Randolph of the Jordans in Virginia. i kNOW WHAT YOU MEAN. i DON'T HAVE EXACT PROOF BUT I THINK MY FAMILY IS DISTANLY RELATED TO THE HUDSON BLACKBURN THAT WAS BORN AT RIPPON LODGE. I NEED TO GO TO THE LIBRARY AND CHECK IT OUT I THINK IT WOULD BE GREAT TO SAVE THE HOME. I LIVE IN sTAFFORD vA BUT DO NOT GET THE POTOMAC NEWS . I WILL CHECK AND SEE IF I CAN GET A COPY. THANKS AGAIN, MARY
I would like to see it in public hands. I hate to see so much history being ruined by development in this area. We narrowly avoided have Bull Run Battlefield turned into a theme park. My Great-grandfather fought in that battle. ----- Original Message ----- From: "mary j cleghon" <mjcle1@juno.com> To: <VAPWILLI-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, April 18, 2000 12:48 PM Subject: Re: [VAPWILLI-L] rippon lodge > THANKS I WILL CHECK IT OUT. > MARY > > > ==== VAPWILLI Mailing List ==== > Search this list's archived messages! > http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl > >

Don't know your location. Potomac News had an article about this sale a few weeks ago. The county govt. is trying to buy it as a historical site. It is also being offered to the general public as I understand. The price tag is rather large. You would be buying a piece of history. It is one of the oldest if not the oldest original home in PWC. Might want to contact the Prince William County Library, Bull Run Regional Library is home to the history room so would be your best bet. My guess someone in the history room is following the developments. ----- Original Message ----- From: "mary j cleghon" <mjcle1@juno.com> To: <VAPWILLI-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, April 18, 2000 11:06 AM Subject: [VAPWILLI-L] rippon lodge > > > > > looking for information on the Blackburn Family Connected to the Rippon > Lodge House For Sale > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > -_ > > > ==== VAPWILLI Mailing List ==== > Visit the Prince William County, USGenWeb Home Page! > http://www.rootsweb.com/~vapwilli/pw.htm > Check out the Prince William Archives and add your records! > http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/va/princewi.htm >
looking for information on the Blackburn Family Connected to the Rippon Lodge House For Sale -_
An article appears in yesterday's Washington Post(4-17-2000,Style section) on Blair House--the residence across from the White House used for the President's guests. The article by Sarah Booth Conroy mentions this house's connection with the Lee family: Francis Blair , a Kentucky newspaper publisher, built the house for his daughter Elizabeth and her husband Samuel Phillips Lee.Samuel, according to the article, was Robert E.Lee's cousin but joined the Union Navy during the Civil War. Pictures of Samuel and Elizabeth's portraits, on display at Blair House, accompany this article. Now for the Prince William County connection--I'm a frequent user of the Freedman's Bureau microfilm at Bull Run, and I have often seen documents with the signature S.P.Lee on letters. When this bureau was reorganized in 1867, one S.P.Lee was appointed Sub assistanct Commissioner of District 10 which included Prince William County. I have a copy of one of S.P. Lee's reports for this district in which he complains about the Ku Klux Klan and their "midnight visitations". I wonder if the S.P.Lee of the Freedman's Bureau is former Admiral Samuel Phillips Lee. I'll try to follow up on this, and I'll let you all know what I find. Looking for information on Nancy Cross Rector who married William Rector. Nancy was the sister of Harrison Cross, Harriet Cross Polen, Joseph Cross, John Cross and James Cross, most of who lived in Prince William and Loudoun Counties. Their father was William Cross of Loudoun Co. William Rector is on 1840 Pr.Wm. census with 2 males age 10-15, 1 male age 15-20, 1 female age 40-50. Possibly this Nancy at age 50 was in the 1850 census in the household of Benja. Cross. Would like to find out what became of Nancy, when she died and if her death record lists her mother's name. Thanks for any help. Bonnie in OKC
Carolyn Lynn, You also have John Lynn, son of Michael & Elizabeth, b. bef. 1767 when mg. of parents took place in 1775. Anne
> Wm. LYNN & Elizabeth REID. You have a marriage date > for them of abt. 1775, but you have a birth date for > Nehemiah of May 7, 1760. The "approximate" marriage date is a typo. I'll be certain to correct it on my next update of the web page. (I'm adding the 1860 and 1870 Prince Wm. Co. census - LYNN surname only -- in the next week or 2.)
