    3. Dear June (Cpzb4@aol.com) Thank you for this copy of the 1850 census for VA Webster entries. You have sent these to me before. I have them all beautifully referenced in my database. The 1820 and 1840 information was interesting and supported what I already had. Unfortunately, I still cannot diagnose who Daddy Webster was! Yesterday I was very fortunate to receive a photograph of my Annie Haislip Brawner--the lady who started off this search. I decided to find out why she had Haislip in her name. It goes something like this: Henry Brawner married Elizabeth Barton in about 1726 in Prince George Co, MD. They had several children including a son Henry and daughter Abigail. Henry married Wilhemina Lloyd Cornish had four children including John Cornish Brawner and then died. Fortunately for me there was a lot of trouble about the will all recorded in the Maryland Archives. The family seems to have moved from Prince George Co to Charles Co and lived in the Piscataway area. They were parishioners at Durham Parish Church. Unfortunately for us, the records of Durham Parish were stolen about 1800--just the time I needed to look at. We do know John Cornish Brawner married Grace?? and had 10 children in Charles Co. He died about 1810. His son Henry moved to VA and married Elizabeth Anness in Alexandria in 1815. We lose them at this point and Elizabeth reappears in Dumfries as a widow in 1850. This family also had 10 children, one of whom was John Thomas Brawner. Thomas married a widow Lucy Ann (Brawner) Clark and had Annie Haislip Brawner. On the other side, Abigail Brawner (d/o Henry and Elizabeth Barton) married James Haislip of Port Tobacco, Charles Co. They eventually moved to Fairfax Co and were buried on Suddath land. Their headstones are now in Pohick Church for safekeeping. Abigail's headstone states quite clearly she was the daughter of H and EB Brawner. The Haislips had 4 children: Henry, Reason, Cassandra and Lucy. Lucy married a Webster and this is stated in the probate papers for her mother's will. (However, which Webster is not clear. It mentions a P Webster, but this is not conclusive proof that Philip Webster was her husband.) Lucy Ann (Brawner) Clark's parents were William Lloyd Brawner and Lucy Ann Webster. Among their children, their only son is names John Philip Brawner. Since William's father is listed as John on his death certificate, it is not too far to stretch to Philip as Lucy Ann's father. Lucy Ann Webster was Annie Haislip Brawner's maternal grandmother. So my conclusion is that Annie Haislip Brawner's parents were cousins of some sort. William Lloyd and Henry Brawner are quite likely to have been sons of John Cornish Brawner. Lucy Haislip Webster and John Cornish Brawner shared the same great grandparents. Lucy Ann (Brawner) Clark seems to have named her daughter after her own great-grandmother (Abigail Haislip). Few leaps of faith there! It would be nice to have some sort of solid proof that my supposition is correct. Cheers Lynne Simpson Canberra Australia

    3. June, I have been trying sporadically to find the correct info on my Brawner relatives for some time. They lived in the Dumfree's area and I think they originated inMaryland. John Brawner was my fourth generation grandfather, his wife Lucinda ,children Frederick,William and Joyce Ann(gggrandmother). Can you tell me where you obtained copies of the censuses you mentioned? I beleive some questions would be answered if I could get copies myself. Thanks, Maggie Dougherty

    3. Dear List Things seem to have been very quiet lately -- maybe I forgot to re-subscribe. I am still looking for anyone who knows anything about Websters in Prince William County from about 1830 onwards. According to ancestry.com there was a William and a P Webster in 1830 and 1840 as heads of households. In 1850 there is Lucy Webster as head of household in Dumfries, she is over 80. It is this woman's husband that I am interested in and their children. I believe one daughter may have been Matilda Webster who married Caleb Simpson. This couple were living next door to Lucy in Dumfries in 1850. I believe another daughter was Lucy Ann Webster who married William Lloyd Brawner (this lady is my focus). There must also have been a son Webster who was the father of James E Webster (aged 15 and living with Lucy Webster). This is the last link I have to find in my Haislip-Webster-Brawner story. Please help me verify who Daddy Webster was. Cheers Lynne Simpson Canberra Australia

    2. I have a copy of the original 1850 census of Virginia. It shows only three Webster's for Prince William County, and Caleb Simpson/Matilda, they are as follows: Household#298 all born in Virginia Caleb Simpson 49 Tenant Matilda 44 William H. 22 Laborer Mary F. 21 George A. 19 Laborer Lucy A. 18 Caleb S. 16 Laborer Moses P. 15 Laborer John T. 13 Sarah Jane 11 Samuel J. 9 Martha M. 8 Susan V. 7 L. Webster 40 Cooper Deliah 35 Elizabeth 14 Susan 9 Richard H. 6 Cloy A. 3 _____Webster 4/12 months female Household # 458 Jane Webster 40 lived with a family by the surname Davis I also have the US Census Index for 1820 and 1840. They show the following names as heads of household and the census page number. Prince William 1820 census index Page 261 John Webster Page 261 Philip Webster [this could be the P. Webster for 1830] Page 261 William Webster [this could be the Wm. for 1830] Prince William 1840 US census index Page 276 James R. Webster Page 278 Mary Webster Page 296 Philip Webster Page 289Reason Webster Page 272 Stephen Webster Page 272 John Webster Is your family of Haislip and Brawner from Charles Co. MD. I noticed that there were many by that name from Charles Co., MD., and so was Lucy Webster age 79 listed in Prince William 1850 census born in Maryland. Just a thought. June

    1. RE: [VAPWILLI-L] Death Certificates
    2. Wilson, Donald L
    3. My understanding is that it doesn't matter what the purpose of the request, death records in Virginia are confidential for 50 years; birth records are confidential for 100 years. In order to obtain a copy of death record for someone less than 50 years old, you will need approval from the next of kin. If you yourself are next of kin, that should not be a problem. Just enclose some evidence of your relationship. If you are not next of kin, you will need to find a living relative who can write a permission note. That may not be easy. Sort of a catch-22 if you are looking for a death record in order to help find living relatives. The Library of Virginia (and RELIC) now have indexes to all Virginia deaths 1912-1961, broken down into time periods, usually of several years. If the death took place during that time, you can determine the exact date and place. With that information you can seek an obituary, which may help you find living relatives. The Social Security Death Index will help you find deaths (mostly adults) since 1962. Sincerely, Donald L. Wilson, Virginiana Librarian Ruth E. 3. Norma and list, This is correct. If the proper time has not passed, you must be a direct descendent of the person according to what I understand. The same is more or less true for some federal data. My understanding is that federal documents of personal nature are sealed for about 70 years. I had some difficulties getting my Father and Mother's government employment records. I had to prove my relationship and prove they were dead. Go figure on that last one! I wrote to Congressman Tom Davis who apparently lit a fire under the records holders and I received them in about two weeks. 1. [VAPWILLI-L] PLEASE HELP
    2. I am new to this list and needs some real help. Until yesterday I was wondering if my great grandmother was an alien from Mars or some unknown galaxy. Seriously I knew she was but from documentation I have received she was born in four different states and in three decades. New found information had my great grandmother ELLEN F. FORD being born May 1856 in Virginia. Now that I know she didn't just pop into this world or come on a flying saucer I am looking for information on her family, parents, and siblings. If you have Ford info please check for her. Also I need a CENSUS look up for 1860 and 1870. She married in April 1872 in Claiborne County, Tennessee. Any help is greatly appreciated. If you look for her in census records you have access to please let me know where you looked so I will know at least where she is not at in Virginia. Thanks you for you help. Patricia
