I live in Northern Virginia and read the Prince William Journal from time to time. I found this URL which will take you to a search engine of the Journal Newspapers (all) but it doesn't appear to go back as far as was listed in this thread (1970) http://www.jrnl.net/search/search.html Anne, did anyone named Musser who is related to you go to high school in Manassas during the '60s? If yes, email me private as I may have been a classmate. wclathan@home.com ----- Original Message ----- From: ANNE B. Northern Virginia has several newspapers called "[Place Name] Journal." If you have relatives in the northern Virginia area, or think you may have long-lost cousins there, check out the archived articles online. They go back to the 1970's, so they may not help you with your ancestry, but they can help you to broaden your search. The Journal Newspapers Online at http://jrnl.com/cfdocs/new/pw/searchall.cfm will allow you to search for articles from All the Journal newspapers or from just one-- Alexandria Arlington Fairfax Montgomery Prince George's Prince William You can search with as little as one word (for example, a surname). The site says, "The Archives contains stories from all of The Journal Newspapers as far back as January 1971 and as current as today. All of the Journal Archives are free of charge. It is possible to search any individual Journal Publication for Articles, Pictures, or Downloadable PDF versions of the Print Edition."

I have a copy of a letter, June 28, 1914, written by J.E.Herrell, Clerk of Circuit Court of Prince William County (Capt.,Co.F.,17th Regt.,CSA) in response to a request for information by my great aunt Eula Hutchison (of Orange), reguarding her father's (my great grandfather) military service during the Conflict. Capt. Herrell names a number of battles he thinks Robert Leachman Hutchison, and his brother Frederick, fought in. He was not sure of this because he had been "detailed for special duty just before the Second Manassas". He goes on to invite Aunt Eula to visit him, that he has three daughters living close by. A Mrs. Beale, Haymarket, "one at the Henry House who married a grandson of the Mr(?). Henry who was killed at the first battle of Manassas", and a third, "Mrs. NEWMAN who lives just across the street from us." There were three Herrells listed in the Clerk's Office on the letterhead, so I'm sure there are still some in the area. Can anyome help me: 1.- Any history on the daughter, Mrs NEWMAN. 2.- Any records on the Hutchisons, who were said to have been born "on the county line of Pr. Wm. and Loudoun counties". Their father was Wm. F., mother Martha L(ewis) Brawner, Hutchison. I have a lot of info on the Hutch's descendents plus a LOT of Newman if anyone can help.

Dear Listers Thanks to Carolyn Lynn's posting of wills to the GenExchange site, I was reminded about my Stonnell quest. Stonnell is one of my major family lines. Richard Stonnell seems to be the original progenitor. With help from Don Wilson at the RELIC Room, we believe Richard Stonnell was transported from England, freed on arrival in VA and fought in the Rev. War. He married a widow, Sarah Cornwell who had two boys: George b. 1777 and John b. 1775 and was living in Prince William County at the time of his death in 1805. Sarah and Richard had at least four boys and one girl. The witnesses to Richard's will were: Jessey Warder, Alan Bland and William Bawsel. Information on any of these would be good, however I am most interested in Jesse Warder. Richard's son William (b. 1803) married Elizabeth Warder (b. 1807). I obviously would like to make a firm connection between Elizabeth and Jesse, if possible. I have a Richard H Warder married to Mary Ann Ratcliff, living in Alexandria in 1850 and Richard also has a connection to Elizabeth somehow. I also have Margaret Emily Warder married to Samuel Arell Marstellar in 1833. They lived in Alexandria and PWCo. Maybe they are all from the same family. Elizabeth and William's daughter Anna Maria married Joseph Warder Reynolds. Now, there has to be a story in there somewhere!!!!! Why would Anna Maria's husband have her mother's family name as his middle name?? Anna Maria was born in Stafford Co and Joseph Warder Reynolds was born in Shepherdstown, (now)WVA. I have asked you for help before and eventually someone has been able to help. Don Wilson tells me there is very little on Jesse Warder. If anyone has anything to help me piece this together ... please help. Cheers Lynne Simpson Canberra Australia

Regarding John Murphy, born 1764 in Prince William. Another researcher wrote John and his wife Nancy were born in or near Alexandria, VA, per their families legend. I discounted this researcher because of some other inaccurate information. Yesterday I read Alexandria was part of Prince William in the 1730's. Was it in 1764? Jeanne Reynolds
Anne writes: > I've been trying to get to the Wills site and keep getting an error > message. Is this normal for this time of day? Unfortunately, that does happen rather more often than I like. It seems to be a problem with the GenExchange site, not just the Prince William Co. pages. Usually if you reload the page or use your back button and hit the "submit" button a 2nd time it works. I am looking for the parents of Mary Craig of Unknown County possibly Jackson or Williamson County , Tennessee. She would have been born about 1750-1760's. I believe that she died there. Also, looking for the parents of her Husband John Wilson. Not much is known about this family as their son my gggGrandfather moved away to Lee County, Iowa. This couple may have been from Mecklenburg, NC or Prince William County, VA Mary Craig married John Wilson about 1778. One of their children: Their son Hugh Wilson is said to have been born Near Franklin, Williamson County, Tennessee. on 10 Mar 1780. It is not known if Hugh had any borthers or sisters. Hugh married Susannah Skiles in blount or greene co TN. 1799. This family is also associated with the following counties: Blount, Greene, Jackson, White, all of Tennessee. Several of Hugh Wilson's children are born in Jacson County around the early 1800's. Schuyler, McDonough, and Hancock of Illinois. Lee County, Iowa. Any info concerning this family is greatly appreciated. Thank you, Cathleen Sheree Gudino

I recently adopted Prince William County on the VAGenExchange (not to be confused with the USGenWeb) and have been busily adding county records to the site. This includes the full text of 70+ wills transcribed from microfilm, searchable by surname. I'm adding more to the site every week (as time permits), and welcome any comments, suggestions, inqueries and submissions. I am trying to find some information on Church Cemeteries in Lawrenceville, Va. hunting for a James Trotter Sr. buried someplace????? in the area. Any help on the old ones that would be in the time frame of 1783 would be appreciated. Margaret Trotter Edwards
Dear List My brilliant Brawner cuz sent me a transcription of the administration of the will of Phillip G Webster. He is my man--married to Lucy Haislip and father of Lucy Ann and Matilda Webster. It is obvious from the 1830 and 1840 Census data that PG Webster appeared to be a wealthy man. Does anyone know anything about other family members or even his parents (if possible). This is the final link in my Brawner-Haislip story. Now I can finish my manuscript and send it off to Bull Run library!!! Yipee. What a Christmas present! Lynne Simpson Canberra Australia
