    2. Thanks Amy; I may be mistaken about the year; it could have been 1870 but i thought she had married a Wm. Kettland by then. My memory must be playing tricks on me. I just may be able get out to a library this week and see what I can find. Thanks, Sue in Al.

    2. Does anyone have access to the 1860 census or the Accelerated Index System? I once noted mention of one Melinda Mitchell; am now wondering if this could have been my 3rd grt grandmother, a widow< though I think I dismissed it due to a discrepancy in age. I now know that ages weren`t always correct on these records. Anyway she fibbed on the 1870 census(she md. a younger man) so. Would love to recheck the record. Thanks, Sue in Al.

    1. [VAPWILLI-L] Benjamin Mason
    2. Ed Dolan
    3. I'm searching for the ancestry of Benjamin Mason, who left a will in Loudon Co., Va. in 1795. In the Loudon records, around the late 1750's, Benjamin is described as son of and executor of the estate of George Mason--but the location and identity of this George Mason isn't clarified. However, I recently found the following deed record from Pr. William Co., and it helps me get closer to Benjamin's parentage: "Virginia County Court Records. Deed Abstracts of Prince William County, Virginia. 1767-1771 Part 2 of Deed Book Q (1763-1768) for 1 June 1767--1 August 1768 and Deed Book R (1768-1771) 1 August 1768 --6 August 1771." Edited and published by Ruth & Sam Sparacio, 1320 Mayflower Dr., McLean, Va. 22101-3402. 1990. --pp. 2-3, pp. 499-503 in original. This Indenture made the (in Lease third) (in Release fourth) day of May in year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred Sixty seven between Benjamin Mason of Cameron Parish in Lowdon County of one part and John Randolph of Parish of Dittengen and County of Prince William of other Witneseth that Benjamin Mason for sum of One hundred pounds Current money hath sold unto John Randolph (in his actual possession now being by sale for one year and by force of Statute for transferring uses into possession) & to his heirs forever a certain parcel of land in Parish & County aforesaid containing One hundred and Eighty acres part whereof being the Plantations whereon Benjamin Drummond lived and John Wiggington being part of a greater tract formerly purchased by Matthew Thompson late of Stafford County deced from John Hogin, the part hereby granted having been sold by William Thompson, late of Prince William County, son of said Matthew Thompson, to Ann Mason by Deeds of Lease and Release bearing date the 27th of February A.D. 1737, the above mentoned Ann Mason sold to George Mason by Deeds of Lease and Release bearing date the 23rd day of Augt. 1754, One hundred and Thirty acres, Fifty acres the said George Mason purchased from John Wiggington. Beginning at A a white Oak the Beginning of Hoggans Pattent on the east side of a small branch the by a line of marked trees No. et. to B a dead red Oak, Corner, then by another line of marked trees So. Wt. to C a corner white Oak near a Road side to be a division between this land and Spillers in Hogens Patent, then down the Road and marked trees by D.E.F.G.H. a marked white Walnut near Cedar Run, then down the meanders of same to I the mouth of Fletchers Spring Branch, then South East marking a line of trees to P a Box Oak and Hickory in line run for Ann Mason, then N. to O a marked yew tree on the bank of said Cedar Run, then partly No. east to a noted white Oak on the east side of a small branch near Cedar Run of Hogins begining, containing One hundred and Eighty acres. Together with all houses, buildings, orchards and appurtenances belonging. To have and to hold said parcel of land above described unto John Randolph his heirs and assigns forever. In witness the said Benjamin Mason hath set his hand and Seal in presence of George Madden. Benjamin Mason jr [junior?] At a Court held for Prince William County the 1 day of June 1767 Benjamin Mason Junr. came into Court in his proper person and acknowleged these deeds of Lease and Release together wit the Receipt thereon endorsed to be his acts and deeds to John Randolph on whose motion the same were admitted to record. The deed mentions Benjamin Mason, Jr. This is likely a son of the Benjamin Mason of Loudon Co. I have recently worked on learning more about the people mentioned in this deed (Hogan, Spiller, Wiggington). They all lived on or near the Cedar Creek area, in south-central Pr. William Co., and these families were there when the land was in Stafford Co. I think the George Mason in the will has to be the father of Benjamin; from other research, I think this George might be a son of a George Mason of Aquia, who left an inventory in Stafford Co. in ca. 1730. Anyone out there interested in this family? Help needed and appreciated. Ed Dolan.

    3. Hi folks, Just wanted to give everyone that has my address as sangen@usit.net in their address book a chance to change it to my new address at sangen46@bellsouth.net My old ISP has sold out AGAIN so I am going with one that won't be selling out in the near future (at least I hope not!) and hopefully won't have as many problems with the new one either. I also want to apologize if you receive this message more than once, but that just means that we are on different mailing lists together so just hit the delete button to get rid of the duplicates. I have been unsubbing from lists under my usit.net address and subbing again with my new address so I don't miss any of your mail. You are a wonderful bunch of people...thanks for being you! :) I will wait until next week to cancel my usit account so you have a chance to make the change 'cause after I cancel that account, the usit.net mail will bounce higher than a rubber ball. LOL Until that time I can still retrieve mail from them. My next step is to try to contact individuals (Oh my, five years of contacts!). I wish you all well and hope that everyone is finding new leaves in their family trees. You can feel free to check out my website for any familiar names if you wish (The link is at the end of my signature line)...if you find one, give a yell! 1. [VAPWILLI-L] George MAYHUGH
    2. I would like to know more about the George MAYHUGH was was the father of Mary Catherine MAYHUGH, who married John R. KEYES in 1891. She supposedly is the daughter of George and Isabella MAYHUGH. I will call him "George I." George II appears in the 1900 census. He was born in 1845. His wife's name is Jane (b. 1853). She is too young to be Mary C.'s mother. If this is the right George, he must have had an earlier wife. (He and Isabella have been married 24 years, which puts their marriage in 1876.) Sorry, Dawn, I did not write down any other details. George III appears in the Miracode index to the 1910 census of Virginia, which lists George Maryhugh [sic] (78), his wife Fannie W. (42), and children Frank P. 16, Custus Lee 14, Harry C. 12, and Mary Louise 10. They all are Virginians by birth (Prince William County, e.d. 93, household 93). The Miracode index to the 1910 census of Virginia also lists George IV. (Bet you thought we were going to stop with George III.) George Mayhugh is in Fairfax County, VA. He is 36 years old (e.d. 25, household 25). His wife Harriet is 35. His children are Rosa (15), Gracie (14), Gustie (a boy, 14), Emma (10), Lloyd (9), Daisie (6), and William (4). These are not the only ones! Rockingham County has a half-dozen George MAYHEWs. But I'd be glad to have some leads on the northern Virginia ones. Best, Laura

    1. [VAPWILLI-L] LEE, ELLIS, McKENNEY, BELL, WOODYARD
    2. My Prince William County lines are Lee (from Silas Josiah Lee b. 1795), Ellis (supposedly from a James Ellis who probably lived around Haymarket in 1819), McKenney (supposedly from an "S. McKenney" who married into the Ellis family) and Bell (from a William Bell). There is also a connection to the Presley Woodyard family that I have not quite figured out. I would like to correspond with others who are descended from, or are researching, these families. Thank you. David Shaw
