Published on Wednesday, December 13, 2000 The Roanoke Times New River Obituaries ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- AUSTIN, Raymond W., 74, of Blacksburg, died Monday, December 11, 2000 after a brief illness. He was born October 12, 1926 in St. Albans, W.Va. He was formerly from Huntington, W.Va., having retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers after 35 years. Ray was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II and the Korean Conflict; he continued in service to his country serving in the Naval Reserves for over 20 years until he retired. Ray was a member of the American Legion and a lifelong donor to the American Red Cross. Having lived in Blacksburg since 1987, he was an avid Virginia Tech fan, where he was known and loved by many special friends as the "Martini Guy." Ray is survived by his wife of 24 years, Frances McCue Austin; two daughters, Laura Runge of Stillwater, Minn. and Robin Austin of Pembroke, Va.; two stepdaughters, Mary Drown of Huntington, W.Va. and Laura Leautier of Reno, Nev. He had six grandchildren, Kara and Brett Runge, Thomas and Cassandra Drown, and Wyatt and Cooper Leautier. No services are planned. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Virginia Tech Hokies Athletic Club. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- BROWN, Daniel Walker, 80, of Dublin, died Monday, December 11, 2000. Funeral service 2 p.m. Thursday, December 14, at the Dublin United Methodist Church, Dublin. Penn's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- GRUBB, William Warren, 79, of Blacksburg, died Monday, December 11, 2000 at Montgomery Regional Hospital. He was born in Wytheville, Va. on August 13, 1921 to the late William Kegley and Myrtle Umbarger Grubb. He was a member and elder in the Roanoke Valley Presbyterian Church and a lifelong farmer and excavator in the community. He is survived by his wife, Irene H. Grubb of Blacksburg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Frances G. and Jim August of Portland, Ore., and Wanda G. and Jerry Semones of Christiansburg; two sons and daughters-in-law, William Boyd and Janis Grubb and Jerry P. and Freda Grubb, all of Blacksburg; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nine sisters, Mrs. Virginia Toney, Mrs. Iva Peyton, Mrs. Nora Price, Ms. Lucille Grubb, Mrs. Dorothy Cleary, Mrs. Glenda Gibbs, Mrs. Allie Underwood, Mrs. Eleanor Hickey, and Mrs. Iris Crump. The family wishes to thank all their neighbors, friends, area churches, the Blacksburg Rescue Squad, Dr. John White, and the staff of Montgomery Regional Hospital for all the wonderful care, kindness and prayers during Mr. Grubb's illness. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, December 14, 2000 at 1 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Pete Bain, the Rev. Charles Taylor, and the Rev. Emory Hoke officiating. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, December 13, 2000 at 11:30 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, Blacksburg, with the Rev. Clare Fischer-Davies officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the funeral service in the Parish Hall. Interment will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2000 at 1 p.m. in the Warrenton Cemetery, Warrenton, Va. She was born in Barton, Ohio on July 19, 1917 to the late Michael and Fannie Nagy Biggs and was also preceded in death by her husband, Geza "Gus" Sickey. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn R. and David "Dan" Linkous of Christiansburg; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert J. "Bob" and Lodis Sickey of Pilot and Ronald G. "Gus" and Deborah Sickey of Indian Valley; eleven grandchildren, Robert Shaheen, David Linkous, Pamela Brubeck, Carrie Moran, Kim Fithian, Ricky Keith, Lisa Moore, Stacy Keith, Zeb Sickey, Zack Sickey and Zoie Sickey; and twelve great-grandchildren, Scottie Brubeck, Jessica Linkous, Jarred Linkous, Mitchell Linkous, Tiffany Moran, Victoria Moran, Ryan Fithian, Jacob Fithian, Jessica Moore, Heather Keith, Mike Shaheen and Bill Shaheen.
