    3. The Roanoke Times New River Obituaries Published on Sunday, December 24, 2000 - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- BOLTINGHOUSE, Byron D. Warren, (BD), 42, of Christiansburg, passed away Friday, December 22, 2000, at his home. "BD" was born in Scranton, Penn., graduated from Cave Spring High School, and served four years in the United States Marine Corps. While stationed at Camp Pendleton, Calif., he was involved in a motorcycle accident that left him disabled. He received his undergraduate degree from Palmar Community College in California. After several years in California, he returned to this area and established a residence in Christiansburg. He earned his Bachelors Degree from Radford University. "BD" was a charter member and active in the local chapter of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and enjoyed entertaining children and adults with his "bag of tricks". He was preceded in death by his father, Byron of Bristol, Va.; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Fitzsimmons of Mayfield, Penn.; and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Byron Boltinghouse of Niles, Michigan. He is survived by a son, James; his mother, Marguerite "Peggy" of Roanoke; brothers, David and wife, Kathleen of Danville, Kevin and his wife, Vickie of Durham, N.C.; several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to the Disabled American Veterans. A memorial service will be conducted on Tuesday, December 26, 2000, at Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church. The family will receive friends following the service. Arrangements by Penn's Funeral Home. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- HANNAH, Jessie Mae Booth, 85, of Pearisburg, passed away Saturday, December 23, 2000, in Pearisburg. Mrs. Hannah was born on September 20, 1915, in Russell Co., Va. and was a daughter of the late Jack and Esta Breedlove Booth. Mrs. Hannah was also preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters. Mrs. Hannah was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, John Hannah of Pearisburg; one son, Ralph Hannah of Pearisburg; three sisters, Ruth Smith of Russell Co., Va., Lucille Booth of Johnson City, Tenn., Evangeline Shepard of Johnson City, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Tina Hannah Sumner of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Randy Hannah of Kernersville, N.C.; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, December 26, 2000, at 2 p.m. at the Givens Funeral Chapel with Dr. Fred L. Austin officiating with interment following in the Birchlawn Abbey in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday before the service at Givens Funeral Home in Pearisburg. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- SHELBURNE, Horace Harvey, (Jake), 93, of Christiansburg, died Friday, December 22, 2000 at Cove Nursing Center of Warm Hearth. Mr. Shelburne was a lifelong farmer in Montgomery County and was also employed by the Virginia Department of Agriculture as a state grader of livestock. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nelle Carper Shelburne, granddaughter, Barbara Adam Carther and his brothers, Tom, Bill and James Shelburne. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Janet Shelburne of Christiansburg; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Charles Cather of Winchester; grandchildren, Charles Cather of Florida, Cynthia Burton of Winchester and Suzanne Shelburne of Christiansburg. He is also survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Cloyd and Winfred Shelburne, of Christiansburg, half-sister and her husband; Estelle and Ralph Dobbins, of Christiansburg, loving and special friend, Mrs. Pauline Gill of Christiansburg and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held today from the Horne Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Steve Akers and the Rev. George Guilliams. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery. He was born in Wythe County, the son of the late Dallas G. and Hallie Burnett Eversole. He was a member of the Austinville Assembly of God Church where he served as a deacon and trustee and he has been faithful in his nursing home ministries throughout the area. He was the owner / operator of Randolph Eversole & Sons Well Drilling Company. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dewey G. Eversole. He is survived by his wife. Donna Holland Eversole; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Barry Fisher of Max Meadows; sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. Terry and Sharon Eversole of Pembroke, Michael and Sheila Eversole of Max Meadows, Jeffrey and Jennifer Eversole of Dublin; sisters, Irene Mobellini of Wytheville, Evelyn Eversole of Max Meadows, Lois Whisman of Ovilla, Texas, Carolyn Arnold of Houston, Texas; brothers, Owen Eversole, and Rev. Willard Eversole, both of Max Meadows; eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and one step great-grandchild also survive. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 26, 2000, at 1 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with the Rev. R. J. Reynolds, the Rev. Ival Mitchell, and the Rev. Larry Barnes officiating. Interment will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin. The family will receive friends at the Barnett Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday or at the residence at any time. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of the arrangements. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- McKINNEY, Robert R., (Bud), 83, of Roanoke, went to be with Jesus on Saturday, December 23, 2000. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, was retired from Hodges Lumber Company, and was a Naval veteran of World War II. Bud was the widower of Christine F. McKinney, and is survived by a sister, Frances Plunkett of Blacksburg; a daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Eddie Bennington of Roanoke; a son, Terry; four stepsons, Kenneth, Paul, John, and Billy; two stepdaughters, Fay and Kay; a grandson and granddaughter, Skip and Kathy Bennington; and a great-granddaughter, Karlee Bennington. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday from Oakey's Roanoke Chapel with the Rev. Charles Doyle officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Sunday at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, where the family will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- LEWEY, Carl Webb, 83, of Roanoke, died in his sleep early in the morning of Friday, December 22, 2000, at his home in Old Southwest Roanoke. Mr. Lewey succumbed to Parkinson's Disease, after having cared lovingly for his wife, Virginia, who died of Alzheimer's Disease last May. Mr. Lewey was the son of Hoge and Sallie Lewey; and brother of Hallie, Ernest, Walter, and Paul Lewey, all deceased. Following his graduation from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Mr. Lewey spent his entire career (which he interrupted briefly to serve as a U. S. Army captain during World War II) with the Norfolk & Western Railroad. Mr. Lewey will be remembered with respect and love by his daughters, Sally Storms, who lives near Sacramento, California with her husband, Tony, and daughters, Natascha, Amanda, Alexis; and Virginia Lewey, currently residing in Roanoke. Mr. Lewey is also survived by sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ashton Dickerson of Partlow, Virginia, and Mrs. Ernest Lewey and Mrs. Paul Lewey of Pulaski, Virginia. Dr. Ray Allen will conduct a memorial service Tuesday, December 26, 2000, at 1 p.m. at Grandin Court Baptist Church in Roanoke, where Mr. Lewey was for many years an enthusiastic choir member. A graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery in Pulaski will follow at 3 p.m. Friends are invited to join the family at home at 402 Albemarle Ave., S. W. in Roanoke following the services. The family suggests any memorial donations be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 710 West 168th St., New York, New York, 10032-9982.
