Surviving are her husband, Russell Akers; three sons, William Henry Dotson, Clarence Burnett and Clyde Burnett; four daughters, Mary Ester Barlow, Beverly Jean Sutton, Georgette Marie Hylton, Charlene Jewel Keesee; three brothers, Donald Cooley, David Cooley, Joseph Cooley; four sisters, Virginia Zook, Marietta Turner, Lois Kelley, Andrea Kollarits; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Alton Griffin and Rev. S. G. Bolt officiating. Burial will be in the Old Willis Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- CALDWELL, Cecil George, 82, of 122 Caldwell Lane in Newport, died Sunday morning, December 3, 2000, in Virginia Veterans Care Center in Salem after a long illness. A lifelong resident of Goodwins Ferry and Newport, he was born on October 7, 1918 a son of the late George C. and Mary M. Fisher Caldwell. He was retired from VPI&SU and worked for many years at Harry Taylors Store in Newport, a time from which he cherished many memories. He was a devoted member of the Clover Hollow Christian Church. Cecil served his country during WW II in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Brady, Raymond and Thomas Caldwell, and two sisters, Edith Kirk and Reba Webb. Surviving are his wife, Barbara Lafon Caldwell; a stepson, "Butch" E. C. Caldwell of Newport; two brothers, Painey Caldwell and Arnold Caldwell of Newport; two sisters, Vivian McCroskey of Newport and Lillian Caldwell of Salem. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke with the Rev. Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in the Clover Hollow Cemetery at Newport. She was the widow of Roscoe W. DeWitt and was also preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters. She was a retired teacher with 30 years of service with the Floyd County School System. Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Phillip Ward and Sue Brightbill DeWitt of Huntersville, N.C., Rodney Keene and Dana Stone DeWitt of Bent Mountain; grandchildren, Ashley, Amy, Emily, Andy and Jordey; a brother-in-law, Bob Smith of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Helen Janney and Janice Conner of Copper Hill. Graveside memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 6, 2000 in Rest Vale Cemetery, Floyd County. The Rev. Bill Mitchell will officiate. The family will receive friends at Oakey's South Chapel from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. He retired from General Electric in January 1990 with 33 years of service. He was a volunteer field representative for Christian Financial Concepts and he was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Roanoke. Mr. Kugler was an avid golfer and was a member of Senior's Golf Association at Great Oaks Country Club in Floyd. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lewis E. and Gertie Kugler, a sister, Barbara Ann Kugler, and a brother, George Edward Kugler. Surviving is his wife of 52 years, Charline W. Kugler; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Bill Fox of Copper Hill; a daughter, Jean Ann Dabbs of High Point, N.C.; grandchildren, Heather and Kevin Westlake of Roanoke, Amy, Kelly, and Bobby Dabbs of High Point, N.C.; two great-grandsons, Kyle and Steven Westlake; sisters and brother-in-law, Lynell and Gordon Van Winkle of Anderson, Ind., Willowdean Kugler of Moore, Okla.; a brother-in-law and wife, H. She was the widow of Charles J. Morris. Surviving are three sons, Donald Morris, Zanesville, Ohio, Floyd Morris of Maryland and Roger Morris of Eggleston; three daughters, Dorothy Adkins of Erin, Tenn., Frances Saul of Joppa, Md., and Betty Smith of Riner; twenty-eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren also survive. She was born in Pulaski, Va. on July 5, 1914, and was the daughter of the late William Roy Shinault and Margaret Ann Anderson Shinault. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy C. Nixon, and by a son, Cecil W. Nixon, and by one sister, Stella S. Jenkins, and by a brother, William Fred Shinault. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Mitch Collins, Pulaski; son, Burleigh J. She was born in Radford, Va. on September 3, 1963. She was preceded in death by her father, Rev. Allan M. Price. She is survived by her mother, Jo Ann Price; two sons, Allan Dwayne Price and Joshua Lee Price, all of Blacksburg; a brother and sister-in-law, Troy Dwayne and Sue Price; her grandmother, Christine P. Price, all of Blacksburg; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends. Mr. Raynes was born on November 20, 1935, in Giles County and was a son of the late Lester and Goldie Shrader Raynes. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, William Raynes. Mr. Raynes was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Pleasant Hill Methodist Church in Pearisburg. He is survived by one daughter, Tina K. Raynes of Bluefield; one son and daughter-in-law, David S. and Meredith Raynes of Huntersville, N.C.; his wife, Betty D.
