The Roanoke Times New River Obituaries Published on Saturday, December 02, 2000 - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- COLLINS, Jennifer Michelle, 29, of Christiansburg went to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, November 30, 2000. She was preceded in death by a grandmother, Dorothy Dalton Collins. She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Sylvia and Daniel Seavey, Christiansburg; her father, Gary Wayne Collins, Floyd; her maternal grandmother, Hollie Nuckols, Christiansburg; grandfathers, Edward Nuckols, West Virginia and Warren Bruce Collins, Dublin; uncles and aunts, Edward, Nuckols, Jr., Blacksburg, Roger and Diane Nuckols, Patty and Billy Dove, all of Christiansburg, Carolyn and Roger Ratcliffe, Pilot, Tammy Collins, Dublin; her stepsister, Bonnie Tuck, Blacksburg; half sisters, Crystal Martin, Sarah Collins both of Christiansburg; a special niece, Dorothy Martin, Christiansburg. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, at the Horne Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Richard Patterson with burial to follow in Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2708 Hydraulic Road, Charlottesville, Va. 22901. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the Horne Funeral Service, Christiansburg. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- HARRIS, Alma Cox, 86, of Radford, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, November 30, 2000. She was the daughter of the late V. B. and Elizabeth Cox and the widow of Roscoe Clinton Harris. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Oscar, Teddy and Coolidge Harris, and a sister, Lottie Conrad. She was a member of the Radford Christian Church since 1948 and remained very active in the Godbey-Pugh-Young Womens Circle. Mrs. Harris also leaves behind many cherished church friends and neighbors. Surviving are one brother, Jep Cox, Chesapeake Beach, Md.; and two sisters, Edna Burton, Floyd and Pauline O'Neill, Lothian, Md.; also special nieces, Liz Burton Lee, Vinton, and Mary Lynn Conrad Camper, Daleville; and many other beloved nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, December 4, 2000, at the Radford Christian Church with the Rev. Dennis Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Radford Christian Church, 1300 Second Street, Radford, Va. 24141. The visitation will be held 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, December 3, 2000. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, December 4, 2000 at Merrimac Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Jerry Sloss and Mr. Donnie Board officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Horne Funeral Service in Christiansburg. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- KEYS, David Fleming, 53, of Blacksburg, died Wednesday, November 29, 2000, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, December 2, 2000, at 11 a.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Arnold Jones officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 554, Roanoke, Va. 24003-0554. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- OVERSTREET, Walter William, 78, of Floyd, passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2000, at the V.A. Medical Center in Salem. He was a very loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Walter was the retired owner of Overstreet Electric Company, a past member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church in Galax and a current member of the Floyd United Methodist Church. He was a strong supporter of his church and community and an active member of the Floyd Ruritan Club. Walter proudly served his country in the Army Air Force during World War II. He was one of the thousands of the AMERICAN AIRMEN who faced starvation and death in the "Death March" of 1945. He was a prisoner of war in Germany and received several military honors, including the Purple Heart. He was a member of the American Ex-Prisoner of War and the Floyd V.F.W. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Lillian H. Overstreet of Floyd; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Karen Overstreet of Galax; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and John Goodwin of Salem; brothers and sister-in-law, Raleigh and Nannie Overstreet of Moneta, Harrison Overstreet of Altavista; four grandchildren who meant so much to him, Brandi Overstreet, Kayla Overstreet, Allen Duncan, Chris Duncan. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, December 2ND at the Floyd United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Gregory officiating. Burial will follow in Topeco Cemetery with Military Rites by Grover King V.F.W. Post #1115 of Hillsville. Pallbearers will be members of the Floyd V.F.W. Post #7854. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Maberry Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the church building fund of either the Floyd United Methodist Church or the Mt.
