The Roanoke Times New River Obituaries Published on Wednesday, December 06, 2000 - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- DeWITT, Maude Musick, of Copper Hill, died Monday, December 4, 2000. She was the widow of Roscoe W. DeWitt and was also preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters. She was a retired teacher with 30 years of service with the Floyd County School System. Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Phillip Ward and Sue Brightbill DeWitt of Huntersville, N.C., Rodney Keene and Dana Stone DeWitt of Bent Mountain; grandchildren, Ashley, Amy, Emily, Andy and Jordey; a brother-in-law, Bob Smith of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Helen Janney and Janice Conner of Copper Hill. Graveside memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 6, 2000 in Rest Vale Cemetery, Floyd County. The Rev. Bill Mitchell will officiate. The family will receive friends at Oakey's South Chapel from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Floyd County Fire and Rescue or the Bent Mountain Fire and Rescue. He retired from General Electric in January 1990 with 33 years of service. He was a volunteer field representative for Christian Financial Concepts and he was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Roanoke. Mr. Kugler was an avid golfer and was a member of Senior's Golf Association at Great Oaks Country Club in Floyd. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lewis E. and Gertie Kugler, a sister, Barbara Ann Kugler, and a brother, George Edward Kugler. Surviving is his wife of 52 years, Charline W. Kugler; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Bill Fox of Copper Hill; a daughter, Jean Ann Dabbs of High Point, N.C.; grandchildren, Heather and Kevin Westlake of Roanoke, Amy, Kelly, and Bobby Dabbs of High Point, N.C.; two great-grandsons, Kyle and Steven Westlake; sisters and brother-in-law, Lynell and Gordon Van Winkle of Anderson, Ind., Willowdean Kugler of Moore, Okla.; a brother-in-law and wife, H. E. and Linda Wolfe of Lafayette, Ind.; nieces and nephews, Mike and Wilma Van Winkle of Florida, Pat and Jodi Van Winkle of Anderson, Ind., Chris and Joelle Van Winkle of Anderson, Ind., Dennis Kugler of Indianapolis, Ind., Tim and Nancy Kugler of Texas, Bob and Julie Wolfe of Farmington, Minn., Pat Wolfe of Indianapolis, Ind., Mike and Julie Wolfe of Anderson, Ind., Richard and Melissa Wolfe of Jacksonville, Fla., Jenny and Mike Wiskins of Evansville, Ind., Mark, Becky, and Jerry Kimble of Moore, Okla. Memorial services will be at the Church of the Holy Spirit 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 6, 2000. The Rev. Quigg Lawrence will officiate. She was born on February 20, 1939 in Meadowview, Va. and was preceded in death by her mother, Gretchen Vaughn and stepfather, Thomas Vaughn. Two grandchildren also preceded her in death. She was a member of the Radford Church of God in Christ. Surviving are five daughters, Toni Day, Radford, Teri Lewis and husband, Richard, New River, Tammi Franklin and husband, Tim, Christiansburg, Robyn Palmer and husband, Dana, Christiansburg, Amanda Day, Blacksburg; two sons, Gregg Lee and wife, Rita, Radford, Lewis Ramsey, Jr. of Colorado; one uncle; one aunt; fifteen grandchildren; one great-grandchild. A wake service and visitation will be Thursday, December 7, 2000, at the Radford Church of God in Christ from 6 to 8 p.m. and funeral services will be held at the church at 2 p.m. Friday, December 8, 2000 with Elder Ron Watson officiating. Mrs. Shirley was born on April 5, 1913 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and was a daughter of the late J. William Penn and Susan Buck Penn. Mrs. Shirley received her Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Alabama and was a music teacher. Mrs. Shirley was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Pearisburg where she was an organist, choir director and an Episcopal Women of the Church member. Graveside funeral service will be conducted Thursday, December 7, 2000 at 2 p.m. at the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, Va. She was a member of the Bastian Church of God. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ben Jessie Taylor; also her parents, Charlie and Nora Rasnick; and a sister, Elizabeth Sarver; and a brother, Eugene Rasnick. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Harold and Janet Taylor, Elliston, Walter Homer and Patricia Taylor, Pulaski, Bennie Ray and Gladys Taylor, Rock, W.Va.; one daughter and son-in-law, Diane and J. D. Ramsey, Bland; a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Margaret Rasnick, Mt. Airy, N.C.; also several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. She has seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren that she loved dearly. Funeral services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home, White Gate, by the Rev.
