The Roanoke Times New River Obituaries Published on Monday, December 04, 2000 - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- ADAMS, Nellie June H., 83, of 428 French St., Pearisburg, died Saturday morning, December 2, 2000 at her home. Born in Franklin County, Va. June 3, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Charlie P. and Lula Hodges Hall. She was a member of the Henry Fork Church of the Brethren in Franklin County and for 54 years, was the loving and devoted wife of the late Mose C. Adams. Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Stella Lynch and Beulah Hall, two brothers, Lawrence Hall and Charlie Hall, a half sister, Annie P. Young and three half brothers, Alfred Young, Fred Young and Hobert Young. Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Duen Cecil and Shelby Young of Calloway, Mose A. "Chip" and Martha Adams of Patrick County, Dr. Jimmy W. and Mary Adams of Barboursville, W.Va.; a daughter and son-in-law, Junie A. and Jim Hodges of Rich Creek; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke, with entombment following in Birchlawn Abbey in Pearisburg. The Rev. Dr. Fred Austin, the Rev. Eddie Kendall and the Rev. Sue Dodson-Walker will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Audobon Society, 700 Broadway, New York, N.Y. 10022 or the American Diabetes Association, 1701 N. Beauregard St., Alexandria, Va. 22311. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- AKERS, Beatrice Cooley, 70, of Floyd, passed away Sunday, December 3, 2000. Arrangements by Maberry Funeral Home. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- NICELY, Edward Leon, 62, of Radford, died Saturday, December 2, 2000 at his home. A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, December 4, 2000 at 11 a.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Max D. Nichols officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 554, Roanoke, Va. 24003-0554. The family will receive friends Monday from 10 a.m. until service time at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- REED, Edna Cox, 97, of Willis, passed away Saturday, December 2, 2000 at Richfield Nursing Center in Salem. She was a member of the Willis United Methodist Church and was active in the Bloodmobile, Republican Party and Home Extension Club, along with other community projects. Mrs. Reed was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Reed and a son, Floyd Reed. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Ward and Gertrude Reed, Knoxville, Tenn., Joseph E. and Frances Reed, Roanoke; one daughter, Ruth Chitwood, Wytheville; sister, Clydia Lester, Galax; sister-in-law, Lula Marshall, Indian Valley; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 5, 2000 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd, with the Rev. Lawrence Nuckolls and the Rev. Roy Turpin officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Maberry Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a favorite charity. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- COX, Rachael Shultz Fisher, 84, of Ridgeway, died Saturday, December 2, 2000 at Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital. Born October 10, 1916 in Blacksburg, Va., she was a housewife and a member of Ridgeway United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mamie Wilson Shultz and Julius P. Shultz. She was also preceded in death by her two husband, Luther Milton Fisher, Jr. and William Gordon Cox, four sisters and two brothers. Survivors include her son, Milton Lee Fisher, Sydnorsville; daughters, Coy (Caroline) Guilliams, Callaway; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild and three stepgreat-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 5, 2000 at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gary Milstead and the Rev. Pat Tony officiating. Burial in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends Monday, December 4, 2000 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- MABE, Walter Sanders, (Bunt) 93, of Rt. 2, Wytheville, The Mabe Town Community, died Saturday, December 2, 2000 in the Wythe County Community Hospital. He was born in Wythe County, the son of the late Thomas and Mittie Collins Mabe. He was retired from the Radford Army Ammunition Plant and was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Marie Wright Mabe; and a son, Harold Mabe. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Richard Hagee of Rt. 2, Wytheville; daughter-in-law, Leetha M. Mabe of Rt 2. Wytheville; three grandsons and spouses Kenneth and Diane Mabe of Roanoke, Danny and Deanna Mabe of Wytheville, Gary and Kathy Hagee of Hillsville; two great-granddaughters, Taylor Mabe, Jordan Hagee; three stepgrandchildren, Rebecca Furrow, Jessica Gilbert, Brandon Leonard; a sister, Willie Mabe Jackson, of San Diego , Calif.; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 5, 2000 at 11 a.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel with the Rev. randy Morris and the Rev. Larry Barnes officiating. interment will follow in the West End Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Barnett Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday or at the home of his daughter Brenda at any time. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville, is in charge of the arrangements. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- FISHER, Janie Humphrey, 84, of Roanoke, formerly of Pulaski and a native of Wythe Co., passed away Saturday, December 2, 2000. Mrs. Fisher was a member of Oakland Baptist Church for over 30 years. She is predeceased by her parents, Chess and Janie Humphrey, a daughter, Carolyn Fisher Sutphin and four brothers, and two sisters. Mrs. Fisher is survived by her husband of 62 years, Charles W. Fisher; daughters, Linda F. Wright and husband, Stephen of Roanoke, Deborah F. Pendleton and husband, James of Roanoke; nine grandchildren, Nenia S. Hodges and husband, David of Roanoke, Judy S. Nunley and husband, Todd of Roanoke, Jody Neel and husband, Darrin of Roanoke, Greg Sutphin of Roanoke, Andrew Pendleton and wife, Jennifer of Norfolk, Thomas Pendleton and wife, Laura of Roanoke, Jonathan Pendleton of Roanoke, Whitney Wright and Logan Wright, both of Roanoke; three great-grandchildren, Stephanie and Courtney Hodges and Thomas James Pendleton; two sisters, Belle White of Christiansburg and Willie Brogan of Wytheville; two brothers, Jack and his wife, Juanita Humphrey of Max Meadows, Woodrow and his wife, Mary Humphrey of Max Meadows; also numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 5, 2000 at 11 a.m. from Oakey's North Chapel, with the Rev. Roy White officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Oakey's North Chapel.
