Hammonds, 87, of Bluefield, died Thursday, February 1, 2001 at Tazewell Community Hospital. Funeral Services will be conducted Monday, February 5, 2001 at 1 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Arnold Linkous officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery, Blacksburg. Friends may call anytime after 12 noon Sunday and the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- FORD, William James, "Bill", 76, of Radford, died Friday, February 2, 2001 at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Weddle Ford and a grandson, Brian William Quesenberry. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Mary Ann Ford Rollins and her husband, James (Joe) Rollins of Parkersburg, W.Va., Arleen Patricia Ford of Radford; his stepmother, Hattie Bain of Holmsville, Ohio; a half brother, John Lee Ford of Holmsville, Ohio; two grandchildren, David Russell Quesenberry, Ezra Lee Ford. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, February 5, 2001, at the Rockford United Methodist Church with the Rev. Roger Holcomb officiating. Interment will follow in Rockford Cemetery. Friends may ball after 3 p.m. Sunday, February 4, 2001, at the DeVilbiss Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. DeVilbiss Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- GRANT, Michael R., 49, of Elliston, died peacefully at home, Friday, February 2, 2001, with his wife, Debbie, of 24 years and his son, Dylan, by his side. He will be remembered as a lover of nature and animals, never letting any animal suffer or go hungry. He was a private and quiet man to those he did not know well. The center of his life was his family, especially his wife and son. His father, William K. Grant preceded him in death. He is also survived by his mother, E. Nadine Grant; his brother, Kyle Grant and wife, Melissa; brother, David Grant, all of Roanoke; and his sister, Karen "Sissy" Grant and husband, Jessie Blessard of Charlotte, N.C. He has a loving grandson, Ian Zylan Grant and daughter-in-law, Chanda Fox. There will be a memorial service at 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2001, at Lotz Salem Chapel. A registered nurse, she was an employee of Montgomery regional Hospital, Blacksburg. She is survived by her husband, Rev. John Carl Ward, Jr., pastor of the First Church of the Nazarene in Christiansburg; a daughter, Makayla Renee Ward; her parents, Kenneth Richard and Donna Fox Shaw, Shawsville; brothers, Rod Shaw, Glendale, W.Va., Rev. Jerry Shaw, Nellis, W.Va., and Robert Shaw, Midlothian; a sister, Dawnetta Shaw, Christiansburg; grandmothers, Emma Shaw, Olive Fox, both of Glendale, W.Va.; six nieces. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2001 at the First Church of the Nazarene conducted by Dr. Mervin Smith with interment to follow in Sunset Cemetery. She was born on May 23, 1927. She was a member of Grace Assembly of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde "Bud" Weddle. She is survived by two sisters, Edith Caldwell of Blacksburg, Irma Edwards of Norfolk; a special niece, Shirley Hankins of Woodbridge; special sister-in-law, Helen Dillon of Blacksburg; sister-in-law, Nina Weddle of Martinsville; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ruth W. and Bill Thigpen of Wilmington, Del.; two brothers-in-law, Lt. Colonel Paul A. Weddle (Retired U.S. Army) of Dunwoody, Ga., Jean E. Lyon of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Gloria Orange of Dublin. Graveside services will be conducted on Monday, February 5, 2001, at 11 a.m. in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- CRANE, Gladys, 75, of Blairs, died Friday, February 2, 2001 at Duke Medical Center in Durham, N.C. after 5 months in the hospital. She was born on May 16, 1925, in Pittsylvania County to the late Fred H. Crane and Ruby Tate Crane. Mrs. Crane had lived her entire life in the Blairs Community and was bookkeeper for Crane's TV Sales and Service. She was a member of the Blairs Baptist Church, where she was very active with the nursery. She married Alvin E. Crane of June 3, 1944. Survivors include her husband, Alvin E. Crane of the home; a son, Alvin Elgin Crane, Jr. and wife, Glenda of Wytheville; two daughters, Diana C. Austin and husband, Ronnie of Blairs, Ruby C. Bass and husband, Michael of Ridgeway; three grandchildren, Steve Austin, Andrea Williams, David Bass; and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Lisa Austin Wright. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, February 5, 2001, at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Jonathan Reed and the Rev. Freddy J. Vicks officiating. Interment in Highland Burial Park. He was a member of Grandin Court Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Cridlin Men's Bible Class. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Harvey Spangler and Minnie Wimmer Spangler. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Marguerite W. Spangler of Roanoke; step children, Linda Gibbons and her husband, Rodney of Ocean Pines, Berlin, Md.; step son, Gary Grammer of Florida; step grandch ildren, Shannon Grammer and his wife, Amy of Roanoke, Lorelei Holt and her husband, Randall of Callaway, Mrs. Tammy Crockett and her husband, Edward of Seaford, Del.; one great-granddaughter, Kyndal Grammer of Roanoke; three sisters, Mrs. Beulah Spangler Claflin of Christiansburg, Mrs. Virginia Spangler Mills of Roanoke, Mrs. Mary Spangler Jamison and her husband, R. C. (Bob) Jamison of Boones Mill; a niece, Sandra Elaine Mills of Christiansburg; a nephew, Dennis Marco Mills of Catawba; and a first cousin, Mrs. Mabel Epperley. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, February 5, 2001, at Oakey's South Chapel with the Rev. Carol Johnston and the Rev. Kevin Meadows officiating. Burial will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Good Samaritan Hospice, 3825 Electric Rd., Roanoke, Va. 24018.
