New River Obituaries ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- DULANEY, Thresa Ann, 83, of Christiansburg, passed away Monday, February 26, 2001 at Montgomery Regional Hospital. She had been a member of the Church of Christ since making Christiansburg her home. She was born May 24, 1917 in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of the late Jesse J. and Mabel Kate Woodruff. She was also preceded in death by a son, Teddy J. Dulaney, a grandson, Jarvis W. Oliver, and her sister, Irene W. Teel. She is survived by her husband, Guy L. Dulaney; a son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Bonnie Dulaney; a daughter and son-in-law, Vicky Dulaney-Oliver and Harvey L. Oliver; grandchildren, Darrel Chad Dulaney, Brianne Dulaney; great-grandchild, MaKayla Lynn Dulaney; her brother, James Woodruff, Norfolk; many various relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 28, 2001, at the Horne Funeral Chapel conducted by Mr. Clarence Lavender with interment to follow in Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Eastside Church of Christ. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Horne Funeral Home. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Effie B. Dulaney and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 28, 2001 at the Maberry Funeral Home with Rev. Clyde Bishop officiating. Burial will follow in Big Sand Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Maberry Funeral Home. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- DURHAM, Mary Pearl Rader, 81, of Pembroke and formerly of Roanoke, died Sunday afternoon, February 25, 2001 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Blacksburg. She was born June 26, 1919 in Bedford, Virginia, a daughter of the late William H. Rader and Minnie Pearl Smith Rader, and was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter J. Rader and Richard Rader, and her husbands, Carl R. Kirkland in 1969 and James Durham in 1998. Surviving are three daughters and two sons-in-law, Debra Sue Snider and Randall Snider, Doris Marie Tickle and Arnold Tickle, and Brenda Gail Kirkland, all of Pembroke, Va.; five grandchildren, Tina Marie Gillispie and her husband, Tootie, Pembroke, Tonya Rene Lucas and her husband, Charles Lucas, Blacksburg, Timothy Arnold Tickle, Troy Jason Tickle and Jessica Sue Draper, all of Pembroke; one great-grandchild, Kristin Marie Gillispie; three sisters, Elizabeth Rader Stampone, Wallington, New Jersey, Margaret Rader Frost, Sarasota, Florida, and Jean Rader Loezius, Plant City, Florida; one brother, Herman O. Maberry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- PALMER, Arthur Woodrow, Sr., 58, of 190 Big Branch Hollow Road in Pembroke, died Monday morning, February 26, 2001 in Montgomery Regional Hospital in Blacksburg after a long illness. Born in Giles County on March 23, 1942, he was a son of the late James Arthur and Ruby Bivens Palmer. Surviving are his devoted wife, the Rev. Phyllis Jones Palmer; two sons, Arthur W. Palmer, Jr. and wife, Kim of Narrows, Mark D. Palmer of Pembroke; two daughters, Kimberly Diane Morgner and husband, Henry of Pembroke and Angelia Iola Pyles and husband, Donnie of Pembroke; a brother, Herman Wallace Palmer of Millers Port, Ohio. Following Arthur's request for cremation, memorial services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Pembroke Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Terry Eversole officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before services and at other times at the home. Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke is in charge of arrangements. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- REED, Edith Estelle Helms, 84, of Christiansburg, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 24, 2001. She was a faithful member of Cambria Baptist Church, where her funeral will be held on her birthday, Tuesday, February 27, 2001 at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Maurice McCarthy and the Rev. Allen Welborn officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Fred A. Reed. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Denny Reed, Mount, Tenn., Rick and Sharon Reed of Christiansburg, David and Becky Reed of Chickasha, Okla.; daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Doug Robinson of Blacksburg. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Candi Reed, Nick Reed, Scott Reed, Kim Davis, Jinnie Reed, Jandi Reed, Kitty Branch, Kay Robinson, Jeff Robinson and Kelly Robinson; great-grandchildren, Nikole Branch, Kasey Branch, Kelley Robinson, Marissa Reed, Cameron Reed, Mallory Reed, Michael Scott Davis and Kyle Davis. F. and Willie Ethel Farmer Roop, a sister, Ethel Willie Roop Hair, and a nephew, Gerald G. Leslie. Survivors include his wife, Beulah B. Roop of Radford; three daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce Ann and Wesley Combs of Shawsville, Patsy Lee and Gayle Adkins of Pulaski, and Nancy E. and Larry Brammer of Radford; one son, Frazier Lee Roop of Franklin, W.Va.; two stepdaughters and their husbands, Patricia Ann and Junior Carroll, and Shirley and Larry Parks, all of Radford; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Leona and Garnett Adkins, and Dorothy and C.
