Funeral 1 p.m. Wednesday at the First Church of God, Dublin. Arrangements by Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- TAYLOR, Daniel Lester, 85, of Pearisburg, passed away Monday, February 19, 2001 at his home in Pearisburg, Va. Mr. Taylor was born on January 9, 1916 in Surry County, N.C. and was a son of the late Emory Stephen Taylor and Minnie Cook Taylor. Mr. Taylor was also preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Moyer and Frances. Mr. Taylor was an Army veteran of WWII, a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Pearisburg, a member of Giles Lodge #106 A.F. & A.M., the Kazim Shrine Temple in Roanoke, Va. and the Giles Shrine Club. Mr. Taylor was a longtime merchant in Pearisburg, first as owner of the Gulf Service Station in Pearisburg and then becoming a partner in the Ingram & Taylor Furniture Store until his retirement. Mr. Taylor is survived by his wife, Elsie Davis Taylor of Pearisburg; one son and wife, John D. and Martha Taylor of Boynton Beach, Fla.; one daughter and husband, Terry Taylor Stafford and David Stafford of Blacksburg; four brothers, Emory Taylor, Jr., Jimmy, Rex and Boyd Taylor, all of Rockingham, N.C.; three sisters, Audrey White of Rockingham, Doris Morrison of Warner Robbins, Ga., Nancy Mullis of Rockingham; four grandchildren, John A. Taylor, Amy Taylor Petrick, Bart and Lindsey Stafford; and one great-great-grandchild, Sage Mahady. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, February 22, 2001 at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg, Va. at 2 p.m. with the Rev. William Sleasman officiating with a Masonic graveside service and burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, Va. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Contributions may be made to New River Valley Hospice. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- TRUEHEART, Thomas D., 58, of Pulaski, departed this life on Sunday, February 18, 2001 after a long illness. He was born April 11, 1942 in Draper, Va., the son of Pauline Hall Trueheart and the late Ervin Watson Trueheart. He was a devoted member of the Slaughter Chapel United Methodist Church, Draper, Va., where he served in numerous capacities. He was employed by Xaloy, Incorporated, Pulaski, Va. for 31 years. He attended Calfee Training School and Christiansburg Institute. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 38 years, Waxanna Trueheart; two daughters, Arnita (Gregory) Harper of Carson, Calif., Stephanie (Robert) Poindexter of Richmond, Va.; four grandchildren, Tanecia, Lashauna, Jasmine and Robert; one sister, Eva Trueheart; four brothers, Garland, Billy, Joseph and George; and a very special friend, Shirley Crouse. Funeral services will be Thursday, February 22, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the Randolph Avenue United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Leroy Henry officiating. The eulogy will be delivered by the Rev. C. G. Slaughter. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin, Va. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of service at Randolph Avenue United Methodist Church. He was retired from VDOT. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Margaret H. Whitlow of Floyd; son and daughter-in-law, William (Bill) and Marcella Whitlow of Roanoke; daughter and son-in-law, Ann W. and Cecil Gillespie of Roanoke; granddaughter and husband, Debra W. and Stephen Hickey of Roanoke; grandson and wife, William C. and Kai Gillespie of Simi Valley, Calif.; great-granddaughter, Stephanie Mitchell of Roanoke; great-grandson, Brandon Gillespie of Simi Valley, Calif.; also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 21, 2001 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lawrence Nuckolls officiating. Burial will follow in Topeco Cemetery.
