He was preceded in death by his parents, Florence and Oto James; a brother, Hubert James; and two nephews, George (Jesse) James and Gene James. Surviving are his wife, Ruth Sayers James, Radford; two stepsons and their wives, Maynard H. and Sharon Sayers, Dublin, and Dennis and Anne Sayers, Radford; a stepdaughter and her husband, Linda and Bill Stiner, Lubbock, Texas; a niece, Helen Groseclose, Bristol; and two nephews, Ford James, Rural Retreat and Vernon James, Bristol; seven grandchildren, Shannon Shappell and husband, Michael, Robert Bruce, Jr., and wife, Gretchen, Sean Sayers and wife Jennifer, Carla Sayers, Joel Sayers, Kate Sayers and Morgan Sayers; along with two great-grandchildren, Sean Patrick Sayers and Abigail Sayers. Mr. James was a retired employee of Hercules, Inc. and a veteran of World War II, having served in the 445th Bombardment Group with the U.S. Air Force and flying thirty-five missions over Germany. He retired with 20 years service in the U.S. Air Force 9209th Recovery Air Force Squadron and was a life-time member of the V.F.W. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 3, 2001 at the Fairlawn United Methodist Church with Rev. Joe Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. at the Groseclose Chapel Cemetery, Wythe County. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fairlawn United Methodist Church. DeVilbiss Funeral Home is handling arrangements . The family wishes to thank the caregivers at the Kroontje Health Care Center and other friends and neighbors for their love and concern. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- WYATT, William Thomas, (Bill), 72, of Radford, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 1, 2001 at his home. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was retired from Douthat State Park Concessions. He was preceded in death by his father, J. Clifford Wyatt. Surviving are his wife, Eleanor B. Wyatt of Radford; son, William T. Wyatt; daughter, Bethel W. Lichtenstein; a daughter and son-in-law, Jaime and Brad Stump; his mother, Kathleen Wyatt of Radford; a brother and sister-in-law, Jon and Mary Wyatt of Radford; grandchildren, Brittany Lichtenstein and Caitlin, Alex, Bryce, and Kennedy Stump, along with a special cousin, Bette Wyatt Atkins of Roanoke. A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 3, 2001 at Highland Memorial Gardens with Pastor Danny Collins officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a favorite charity.
