New River Obituaries ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- ARMBRISTER, George W., 78, of 4218 Holbert Avenue, Draper, Va., went to be with the Lord, Monday, May 28, 2001. He was born in Wythe County, November 18, 1922, a son of the late George Wesley and Maude Friend Armbrister. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Philip Armbrister; and two brothers-in-law, Richard Farrell and Russell May. He was a lifelong member of the Draper's Valley Presbyterian Church, where he faithfully served for many years as a deacon and as an elder and was elected Elder Emeritus. After 30 years, he retired as a dye weigher from Klopman Mills. Mr. Armbrister was an army veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Ann Lovern Armbrister of Draper and formerly of Glade Springs, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Sherry Armbrister, Dublin; daughter, Mary Ann Armbrister, Nashville, Tenn.; granddaughter, Jessica Armbrister, Dublin; brother and sister-in-law, David and Patra Armbrister, Draper; sisters, Catherine Farrell, Evanston, Ill., Margaret (Pearl) May, Wadsworth, Ohio, Janet Armbrister, Draper; sister and brother-in-law, Clara Mae and Paul Smith, Roanoke, sister-in-law, Dr. Mary F. (Pan) Lovern, Dublin; several nieces and nephews; and a close family friend, Margaret Anne Roberts. The funeral will be conducted on Thursday, May 31, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Draper's Valley Presbyterian Church by Dr. Cortez Cooper and Rev. Preston Orr Sartelle, Jr. Interment will follow in the Draper's Valley Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 30, 2001 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Draper's Valley Presbyterian Church, 2755 Old Baltimore Road, Draper, or to the American Diabetes Assoc. He was born in Long Island, N.Y. on February 22, 1958. He was a lover of music and was a person who loved to write. He is survived by his wife, Kelly K. Cahill of Blacksburg; his parents, Leroy and Rose Cahill of Port Orange, Fla.; four sons, Jeremy Cahill, Kevin Cahill, Mark Cahill, and Sean Cahill, all of Blacksburg; two sisters, Marie Werner of New York, Debbie Silvera of Florida; and a brother, Kevin Cahill of New York. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, May 31, 2001 at 7 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Chapel with the Mr. James O. Flaugher officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VA Tech Credit Union for an educational fund for his children.
