He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Ada Vance Kiser, also a sister, Judy K. Nipper. Surviving are his wife, Judy Kiser; children, Charlie and Joey Haire, DeWitt, Va., Paul David and Mindy Kiser, Terri and Shawn McGuire, all of Christiansburg; grandchildren, Meagan, Joshua and Raven Haire, David M. and Mathew Kiser, Hannah and Allison Wilson, Todd, Jonathan, Austin McGuire; brothers, Gary Kiser, Dublin, Sherry Lee Kiser, Cedar Bluff, Va.; sisters, Anna Jo Duncan, Pulaski, Carol Schierenbeck, Charlotte Brackney, both of Illinois, Linda Nipper, Narrows and Millie Johnson, Ohio. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2001 at the Horne Funeral Chapel conducted by Pastor George Bulson. Funeral 2 p.m. Wednesday at Stevens Funeral Chapel, Pulaski. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- LIVERMORE, Marie Hipfel, 87, of Blacksburg, died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. She was born in Scranton, Pa. on April 22, 1914 to the late Henry and Josephine Koelsch Hipfel. She was raised in Trenton, N.J. and was a graduate of Russell Sage College in New York State. Mrs. Livermore began her teaching career in Blacksburg in 1947, the first certified girls physical education instructor at Blacksburg High School. She taught 6th grade in the 1950's and became the schools art teacher in the 1960's and 1970's, retiring when her husband retired, to pursue her own watercolor painting interests. She painted scenes all over the world, and in later years created extensive abstract paintings which were viewed in shows and galleries statewide. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Upton Livermore. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Daniel Upton, Jr. and Janet Livermore, Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren, Tonya Bowers, San Diego, Calif., Daniel Livermore, Ill, Pittsburgh, Kan., Samuel Livermore, Jacksonville, Fla., Laura Livermore and John Livermore, Atlantic Beach, Fla.; two stepgrandchildren, Lois Bryan and Barry Bryan, Jacksonville, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Danielle and Robin Livermore, Pittsburgh, Kan. Memorial services will be conducted Tuesday, May 15, 2001 at 4 p.m. in the Blacksburg Presbyterian Church with Rev. Alex Evans officiating. He was born Fort Campbell, Ky. on November 5, 1947. He was preceded in death by his father, Phillip Ray Oliver, Sr. He attended Alderson Broaddus College in Philipi, W.Va. He graduated from Blacksburg High School in 1965 where he played on the state championship high school basketball team. He was a beloved husband, son, and brother and is survived by his wife, Susan Hetland Oliver of Christiansburg; his mother, Lucille Stickney Oliver of Blacksburg; a son, Christopher Douglas Owens of Bristol, Va.; a step son, David Seth Horton of Richmond; three sisters, Julia of San Ramon, Calif., Janis of Stewartville, N.J., Mary of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three brothers, Phillip, Jr. of Billings, Mont., John of Greenville, S.C., Vincent of Calabash, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial mass will be conducted Wednesday, May 16, 2001 at 2 p.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Paul Gallagher and Father James Arsenault officiating. Arrangements by Claytor-Dean Funeral Home. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- RINER, Geneva Morris, 85, of Newbern, died Monday, May 14, 2001 at her daughter's home in Staffordsville. Born September 5, 1915 in Newbern she was the daughter of the late Lucy Linkous Morris and James William Morris. Mrs. Riner was preceded in death by her husband, Porter Edward Riner, Sr. and one son, Alvin Gray Riner. She was a charter member of the Newbern Community Christian Church. She is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Lorena and Arnold Garlic of Staffordsville, Martha Ann Davis of Newbern, Ella Louise Riner of Grundy; one son and daughter-in-law, Porter Edward Riner, Jr. and Sue Riner of Christiansburg; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Newbern Community Christian Church with Clyde George, Mike Whitaker and Brad Lewis officiating. He was born in Bluefield, W.Va. on February 18, 1907 and was the son of the late George Washington and Lula Mae Linkous Woodyard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Mae Mullins Woodyard; six brothers; and three sisters. He was a retired employee of the Lees-McVitty Tannery at Pearisburg, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Narrows. He is survived by a daughter, Rebecca W. Rice and her husband, Bill of Narrows; three sons, Ronald Woodyard and his wife, Becky, Jackie Woodyard and his wife, Ellen, Jerry (Mike) Woodyard and his wife, Sandy, all of Narrows; a sister, Elsie Holt of Pembroke; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four step grandchildren; and six step great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 16, 2001 at 11 a.m. at Riffe's Funeral Chapel in Narrows with the Rev. Darrell Hunley officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Narrows.
