Arrangements by Horne Funeral Service, Christiansburg. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- DEAN, Elizabeth Barta Sizemore, 89, of Blacksburg, beloved mother of Michael Sizemore and Janice Sizemore Zenner passed away Sunday, May 6, 2001. She was best known in this area as Mrs. Sizemore who taught fourth grade and seventh grade English at Christiansburg Elementary School from the late 1940s until the early 1960s. She encourage hundreds of young people to love the written word, to appreciate poetry and literature, and to have fun in life. Always quick to laugh, "Liz" was a fun-loving friend and popular teacher. She continued teaching high school English and special education in Lake City, Fla. and Holly Hill, Fla. She retired in 1979, having taught in public schools for forty-three years. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Emmett Roy "Chic" Sizemore in 1971, her granddaughter, Jacqueline Darcy Sizemore, her grandson, Michael Louis Sizemore, brothers, Louie and Joe Barta, sisters, Julia Barta Trapaso, Ethel Barta Paskovics, and Mary Barta Bagley. Mrs. Sizemore remarried in 1979 to the late Mr. Charles Wesley Dean, who passed away in 1988. Mrs. Dean is survived by her son, Michael Sizemore of Floyd; daughter and cherished son-in-law, Janice and Paul Zenner of Blacksburg; brother, Andy Barta of Boca Raton, Fla.; special friend, Jenny Jervis; many nieces and nephews; and many friends. She was born in Carroll County on April 29, 1922, and was the daughter of the late Preston Marshall and Margaret Marshall Marshall. She was also preceded in death by a son, Maynard Edward Taylor. She was a member of the Bethel Brethren in Christ Church, Sylvatus, and she was a retired seamstress having worked for Quality Mills, Hillsville and Sweat Orr, Pulaski. She is survived by her husband, Woodie Stilwell of Pulaski; sons and daughters-in-law, Sheldon and Christine Taylor of Pulaski, Conley and Susie Taylor of Bedford County; two step children, Bonnie Black of Mechanicsburg, Pa., Darrell Stilwell of Allisonia, Va.; brother, Willie Marshall of Dugspur, Va.; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Stevens Funeral Chapel with Dr. James DeBoe and the Rev. Darlene Marshall officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin.
