New River Obituaries ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- BAADE, Gertrude, (Trudy), of Blacksburg, passed away peacefully but unexpectedly at her home on Tuesday, May 15, 2001. She is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Dr. Wilhelm Baade of Blacksburg; her daughter and son-in-law, Ilka and Manfred Huetter of Sinsheim, Germany; two granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Susie and Reiner Huxel of Sinsheim, Germany, Tina and Michele Bonan of Florence, Italy; a grandson, Peter Huetter of Sinsheim, Germany; a sister-in-law, Auguste Erb and four adorable great-grandchildren. A native of Austria, Trudy has made Blacksburg her home for the last forty-five years. She adored animals, many of which found love and comfort in her home. She had a great zest for life, which she shared with many devoted friends. She will be greatly missed by all of us who loved her dearly. "Goodbye, Mama Rosa". A memorial service will be held Monday, May 21, 2001 at 4:30 p.m. in the St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Father Paul Gallagher officiating. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebekah Caldwell; a brother, Waddie Bishop, Jr.; and a sister, Mary Frances Reed. Survivors include his wife, Chloe Altizer Bishop; a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Gary Hylton; a granddaughter, Ariel Hylton, all of Riner; a brother, Robert Wayne Bishop, Radford; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2001 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd, with Rev. Michael Coleman and Rev. Tom Bonn officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Robert Brainard. She was a graduate of the University of Chicago, and was an elementary school teacher in Waukegan, Ill. She is survived by three sons, Robert Blair Brainard of Al Ayn, United Arab Emirates and wife, Mary, Blair Alan Brainard of Radford, Va. and wife, Madeline, and Lawrence John Brainard of Somerset, England; one daughter, Anne DeMartini of Modesto, Calif. and husband, Jim; one brother, William Blair of Carpenteria, Calif. and wife, Wendy; and nine grandchildren, Laura, David, Michael, John, Rabia, Alan, Benjamin, Noah, and Gabrielle. She was born in Montgomery County November 12, 1935 to the late Charles Henry "Buster" and Minnie Dove Kytchen. She was also preceded in death by her son, Robert William Caldwell, a sister, Hilda Davis, brother, "Butch" Kytchen and brother-in-law, John Piatek. She is survived by her husband, Robert Roscoe "Ross" Caldwell of Blacksburg; one daughter and fiancZ, Angela M. Caldwell and Jon Beck of Blacksburg; one son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Melinda Ogle of Newport; one sister, Nellie Piatek of Blacksburg; one brother and sister-in-law, John Henry and Helen Kytchen of Blacksburg; one brother-in-law, Robert Davis, Jr. of Christiansburg; one grandson, Chayton Ogle of Newport and several nieces and nephews.
