    3. New River Obituaries ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- ALEXANDER, Effie Mae, 92, of Christiansburg, died Friday, May 18, 2001. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 21, 2001, at the Christiansburg Church of Christ with Mr. A. Lowell Altizer speaking. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery. Arrangements by Horne Funeral Service in Christiansburg. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- ALLEN, James Matthew Jr., (Jim), 66, of 4829 State Park Road, Dublin, Va., died Saturday morning, May 19, 2001, in the New River Valley Medical Center, Radford, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Allen was born in Lee County on August 14, 1934, and was the son of the late Matthew Allen and Mary O'Roark Allen. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Green and Jack Allen. He was a member of the Mt. View United Methodist Church and was a retired employee of AT&T. Mr. Allen was a veteran having served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his wife, Betty M. Allen, Dublin; daughters and sons-in-law, Pam Allen and Tom Mattox, Dublin, Susan and Gary Thomas, Dublin; sons and daughters-in-law, Matt and Kym Allen, Dublin, Grey and Kim Allen, Dublin; sisters and brother-in-law, Alice and Jack Spangler, Lebanon, and Virginia Harvey, Fla.; brothers, Joe Allen, Lebanon, and Walter Allen, New York; sisters-in-law and spouses, Dawn Morehead, Dublin, Nancy and Gerald Dunford, Dublin, Lauraetta Roope, Dublin, Diane and Mel Tolbert, Dublin; grandchildren, Kandi Allen, Brandon Allen, Andrea Thomas, Mary Thomas, Adam Allen, and Andrew Allen; many nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Mt. View United Methodist Church with the Rev. Donna Hester officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Visiting will be Monday evening at Stevens Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Arrangements by Stevens Funeral Home, Inc., Pulaski, Va. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- TURNER, Carol Elizabeth Foster, 57, of Christiansburg, died Friday, May 18, 2001. There will be a memorial service held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 21, 2001, in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Bond officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The family request in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to a church or charity of one's choice.
