New River Obituaries ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- COOPER, Nellie Ruth, 72, of Christiansburg, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2001 in Montgomery Regional Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Bob" Cooper, a brother, Billy Sarver and a grandson, Steven Edward Burton. Surviving are her children, Barbara and Frank Shelor, Floyd, Janet and Ricky Quesenberry, Pembroke, Bobby and Minnie Cooper, Lynn and David Blevins, all of Christiansburg, Patricia and Donnie Lytton, Radford; a sister, Norma Jean Hawks; fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren; also special friends, Jenny Honaker and Mary Cumbee. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 12, at the New Hope Church of God conducted by Rev. Mike Bond with burial to follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The body will be placed in the New Hope Church of God Friday morning where friends may call anytime after noon, the family will receive friends at the church from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday evening. She is survived by 3 sons, Larry Wayne Delaney, and wife, Connie, Ocklocknee, Ga., Everett O'keath Delaney, and wife, Debbie, Rapidan, and Barry Christopher Delaney, and wife, Patty, Front Royal; two sisters, Betty Davis, Blacksburg, and Ruth Adkins, Grundy; eight grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. Lovella was a member of the New River Valley Solo Club and the Montgomery County R.S.V.P. Arrangements by Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- MARSH, June Forbes, 72, of Blacksburg, died Monday, May 7, 2001 in a Salem Hospital. She was born in Beckley , W. Va. on September 12, 1928 to the late Jabez and Lula Fowler Montgomery. She was a graduate of Concord College (Class of 1948), Athens, W. Va., she continued her education at Marshall University and Harvard University extension. She was a longtime resident of Charleston, W. Va., where she taught for many years. A resident of Blacksburg since 1994, she was active in the American Association of University Women. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles L. Forbes in 1985. Mrs. Marsh was a devoted wife and mother. She is survived by her husband, Edwin C. Marsh, Sr., Blacksburg; her daughter and son-in-law, Martha Forbes Marsh and Edwin C.. "Chip" Marsh, Jr., Levelland, Texas; a niece, Rebecca Kenfield, Florida; a nephew, Wayne Morrison of West Virginia. Mrs. Marsh requested that no funeral services be held. (Wake Forest Community), departed this life on Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at the Union Memorial Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland, after a long illness. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Lillian Pulliam. She was a faithful member of the New Pentecostal United Holy Church (Wake Forest Community). She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Mills; and two sons, Henry and Charles Mills. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Marie Hunt of Baltimore, Md. and Naomi Davidson of Pulaski, Va.; two sons, James (Rebecca) Mills of Baltimore, Md. and Roy (Julia) Mills of Roanoke, Va.; 21 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren, as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 13, 2001 in the New Pentecostal United Holy Church (Wake Forest Community), Blacksburg, Va. with Elder Huston Spencer officiating. Arrag ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- PRICE, Robert Marshall, 77, of Blacksburg, died Thursday, May 10, 2001 at his home. Bob graduated from Blacksburg High School in 1943 and received his B.S. degree from Virginia Tech in 1951 and his M.Ed. in 1962. He taught vocational education at Blacksburg High School for 33 years, including classes for Diversified Occupations, Distributive Education, Industrial Cooperative Training, the Work Experience Cooperative Education Program, and General Business. After retirement, his interests were his family, his rental business, travel, and his vacation home on Little River. While still in high school, Bob was a member of the Virginia National Guard, Battery G, 246th Coast Artillery, the only National Guard unit in western Virginia at that time. In 1943, shortly after the outbreak of World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed at Deland Air Station in Deland, Florida, before going overseas in 1945 to serve in the Carrier Aircraft Service Unit-48 (Forward Area) located on the South Pacific island of Saipan. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1945 as a Chief Petty Officer, 2nd Class. After his marriage in 1948, Bob was active in both educational and community affairs, serving as a member of the Blacksburg Jaycees, President of the United Fund Campaign in 1969, and as a Town Councilman from 1964-1969. A member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bob is survived by his wife of 53 years, Cecelia Price; his son and daughter-in-law, Robert M. Price, II and Brenda Price; daughter, Patricia Price; and grandson and wife, James David Price and Kelly Smith-Price. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter Painter Price and Lottie Roop Price; and a grandson, Michael Shane Price. A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2001 at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Blacksburg. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service. Mrs. Shrader was born on May 1, 1901 in War, W.Va. and was a daughter of the late William and Alice Wingo Raynes. Mrs. Shrader was also preceded in death by her husband Freddy W. Shrader; and three sons, Robert, Jimmy, and Frankie Shrader. Mrs. Shrader was of the Methodist faith and was retired from the Celanese Corp. in Narrows. Mrs. Shrader is survived by two sons, William Shrader of Silver Springs, Md., Freddy Shrader, Ripplemead; two daughters, Alice White of Salisburg, Md., Jerry Marcelynas, Delmar, De.; one sister, Dorcas Caldwell of Wilmington, De.; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, May 12, 2001 at 2p.m. at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with the Rev. Williams Sleaseman officiating with burial following in the Shrader Cemetery in Chapel, Va.
