New River Obituaries ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- LUCADO, Gay Sheppard, 84, of Pulaski, passed away Sunday morning, May 27, 2001, in the Pulaski Health Care Center, Pulaski. Born February 13, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Frank C. Sheppard and Helen Delp Sheppard. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John P. Lucado and one brother, Roy H. Sheppard. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Pulaski. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Jackie Bond of Pulaski; two granddaughters and spouses, Karen and Mark Armentrout of Radford, Cheryl and Lee Slough of Roanoke; three great-grandchildren, Landon Armentrout, Brett Armentrout, Logan Slough; four sisters, Mrs. Lala Tracy of Pulaski, Mrs. Irene Edwards of Stafford, Miss Lena Sheppard of Springfield, Miss Nancy Sheppard of Springfield; two brothers, James Sheppard of Springfield, Clayton Sheppard and wife, Bobbie, of Springfield. Funeral services will be held Tuesday 11 a.m. at Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski with the Rev. Lawrence Nuckolls officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. Visiting will be anytime after 4 p.m. Monday afternoon with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evening at Bower Funeral Chapel, 1631 Bob White Blvd., Pulaski. The family will be meeting at the home of Lois and Jackie Bond, 3695 May Street, Pulaski. Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski is handling the arrangements. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- LUCAS, Maxine French, 71, of Narrows, died Saturday, May 26, 2001 at her residence. A lifelong resident of Giles County, she was born March 23, 2930 and was the daughter of the late John B. and Edna Howard French. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Goldie French Hess, Flossie Shumaker, four brothers, Woodrow French, Russell French, Cecil French and Mason French. She was a member of the Cornerstone Pentecostal Holiness Church in Narrows and was a retired employee of the Celanese Fibers Company Plant in Narrows, after 48 years of service. She is survived by her husband, Raymond H. Lucas, Narrows; two sons, Charles H. Lucas and his wife Jean of Ballard, W.Va., Steven R. Lucas, Narrows; a daughter and her husband, JoAnn and Eddie Mullins, Narrows; a brother, James French, Pittsburg, Penn.; a sister, Dorothy Jean Spar, Reno, Nevada; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one stepgreat-grandchild. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at 11 a.m. at the Cornerstone Pentecostal Holiness Church in Narrows, with the Rev. Kimball Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Burchlawn Burial Park, Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- SIMPSON, William Bailey, 78, of Radford, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2001 at New River Valley Medical Center. He was a retired welder of Lynchburg Foundry with 42 years of service, a WW II veteran having s erved in the US Air Force, a member of VA Masonic Lodge #38 A.F. & A.M. , and was a member of Carter Street United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Josephine Radcliffe Simpson; son, William Joe Simpson of Radford; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Ann and Kenneth Criner of Radford; two grandchildren and spouse, Keith Edward and Nikki Lawrence, Crystal Lawrence; one great-grandson, Shaun Edward Lawrence; very special niece and husband, Barbara and G.C. King; special friends, Kirby Phillips, Freddie Smith, Kelly, Donna and Tara Marshall, Stan and Lois Clayton, and Ray Farmer, all of Radford. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at 11 a.m. at Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin, with the Rev. Terri Gregory officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Carter Street United Methodist Church Building Fund or Church Choir 2nd and Carter St. Radford, Va. 24141. There will be no public visitation. Arrangements by Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- WOOD, Margie Williams, 76, of Floyd, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2001 at her home. Surviving are her husband, Charles B. Wood of Floyd; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Jackie Williams, Jane Williams, all of Floyd, Ross Williams of Roanoke; a sister, Loeta Lawrence of Maryland. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 12 noon at Wood Funeral Home with Elders Hale Terry and Larry Hollandsworth officiating. Interment will be in Camp Creek Cemetery.
