New River Obituaries ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- LONG, Emmett Junior, 81, of Long Shop, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at Montgomery Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, May 24, 2001 at 11 a.m. in the Shiloh Lutheran Church, Long Shop, with Rev. Robin Henrickson officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shiloh Lutheran Church, 5218 Long Shop Road, Blacksburg, Va. 24060 or to the Long Shop-McCoy Fire and First Aid, P.O. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- SPANGLER, Wilburn Henry, (Will) 67, of Floyd passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family Tuesday, May 22, 2001. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert (Ted) and Alma Spangler. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Nancy; son and daughter -in-law, David and Patricia Spangler of Floyd; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Frank Kaylor of Floyd; son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Amy Spangler; daughter, Beth Spangler of Floyd; and son, Glenn Spangler and fiancZ Tracey Hansford, Covington. In addition to his children, he is survived by his grandchildren, Jeremy, Amanda, Kristen and Megan Spangler, Jason, Jennifer and Joseph Kaylor, Christopher and Adam Turner (all of Floyd), Ashley and Sydney Spangler of Roanoke, granddaughter, Julie Harris and husband, Adam and son, Tyler of Floyd. He will also be greatly missed by his nieces, nephews, cousins and a very special brother-in-law, and sister-in-law from Iron Mountain Michigan, Reverend Ronald and Joan Wolfe. After serving six years in the U.S. Coast Guard, Will started his 31 year career with Nationwide Insurance in Harrisburg, Pa. as an underwriter until his retirement as a Nationwide Agent in Roanoke in 1997. In addition to his involvement with his children's activities he was a lifetime member of the Lions Club. Per Wills' request, there will be no viewing. Arrangements are being handled by Wood Funeral Home in Floyd with a small service in the Spangler family cemetery in Floyd. A date and time has yet to be determined. Seagle & Sons Funeral Home. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- ZAPPAVIGNO, Rosie Vernie Cole Douthat, 85, of Newport, Va., formerly of Peterstown, W.Va., died Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital, Pearisburg, Va. Born April 19, 1916 at Buchanan, Va., she was a daughter of the late William Mack and Sarah Christian Cole. She was a homemaker, and was of the Methodist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank S. Douthat, Sr., and a second husband, Sam Zappavigno. Survivors include one son, Frank Douthat, Jr. and wife Elva, of Newport, Va.; two grandchildren, Timothy Lee Douthat and Lisa Dawn Douthat, both of Newport; and a host of special nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2001 at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel in Peterstown, with Rev. Tommy Mounts officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park, Pearisburg, Va. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2001 at the funeral home.
