New River Obituaries ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- CHARLTON, Richard Monroe, 82, of Narrows, died Saturday, April 28, 2001 at the home of his son and his wife, John and Judy Charlton in Jonesborough, Tenn. He was born in Princeton, W.Va. September 25, 1918 and was the son of the late Emmett and Nell Bevins Charlton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sarah Jane Benson. He was a retired chemical engineer with the Radford Army Ammunition Plant at Radford, after 33 years of service. He was a graduate of Roanoke College. He loved his church and was a member and Board Chairman of the First United Methodist Church in Narrows, where he taught the Men's Bible Class for 35 years. Richard spent much of his time with his family and enjoyed the outdoors and hunted with his son and friends. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Rosalie Johnson Charlton, Narrows; a son and his wife, John and Judy Charlton, Jonesborough, Tenn.; daughters, Kit C. Benson and her husband, Alan of Griffin, Ga., Melissa C. Richardson and her husband, Doug of Narrows; four grandsons, Benjamin Richardson and wife, Laura, Brian Richardson and his wife, Melinda, Christopher Charlton, Calan Charlton; two granddaughters, Amanda Gay and husband, James, Carrie Benson; and three great-grandchildren, Zachary Richardson, Mollie Richardson and Kellie Richardson. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 1, 2001 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Narrows, with the Rev. Wayne Monroe officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Narrows. The family received friends at Riffe's Funeral Service, 600 Main St., Narrows, Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, Narrows, Va. 24124. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- DICKERSON, Thomas Hassell, 72, of Floyd, passed away Sunday, April 29, 2001 at the New River Valley Medical Center. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Thompson Dickerson of Floyd; son and daughter-in-law, James Cleophus and Esther Dickerson of Hardy; grandson, Brandon Lee Dickerson of Willis; sisters, Geneva Myers, Winnie Gaylene Quesenberry, Juanita Quesenberry of Collinsville; half brother, James McArthur Dickerson of Woodlawn. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Allen Cherry and the Rev. Elmond Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Pine View Cemetery, Dugspur. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Maberry Funeral Home. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- PRICE, Yvonne Linkous, (Y), 64, of the Merrimac Community, Blacksburg, passed thought the arms of Jesus on Sunday, April 29, 2001. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2001 at the Merrimac Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Jerry Sloss officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are being handled by Horne Funeral Service, Christiansburg. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- SCOTT, Jeffrey Lynn, 38, of Dublin, passed away Monday, April 30, 2001. Arrangements by Mullins Funeral Home, Radford. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- YEATTS, Helen Kelley, 84, of Floyd, passed away Sunday, April 29, 2001 in a Salem hospital. She was a member of Copper Hill Church of the Brethren. She is survived by a daughter, Lois Y. Board of Check; four sons, Albert (Buck) Yeatts of Copper Hill, Wayne Yeatts of Salem, R. Lowell Yeatts of Check, Roger E. Yeatts of Christiansburg; sister, Hazel Radford of Hagerstown, Md.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 2, 2001 at 2 p.m. at Copper Hill Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Doug Jones, the Rev. Frank Wimmer, and the Rev. Dale Bowman officiating. Interment will follow in Restvale Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday after 3 p.m. at Gardner Funeral Home where the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Floyd County Station 3 Fire and Rescue Squad.
