New River Obituaries ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- COX, Don Carlos, 90, of the Warm Hearth Village in Blacksburg, died Wednesday, April 18, 2001 at Kroontje Health Care Center. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, April 20, 2001 at 11 a.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Stanley Harvey officiating. Entombment will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park, Pearisburg, Va. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Bowman Dobbins and a grandson, Greg Dobbins. He was an active member of the Fairlawn Church of God. Survivors include his wife, Marie Saul Dobbins of Pulaski, Va.; his mother, Freeda A. Dobbins of Radford, Va.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Debbie Dobbins of Sherrills Ford, N.C., Jeffrey and Diana Dobbins of Radford, Va.; one daughter and son-in-law, Terry and J. Wayne Vaughan of Galax, Va.; two brothers, Jim Dobbins of Shreveport, La., Bill Dobbins of Dublin, Va.; five grandchildren, Lisa Dobbins Mountjoy, Zachary Dobbins, Meagan Vaughan, Sarah Kennedy and Tyler Dobbins; two great-grandchildren, Jeremie Ingram and Brittany Smith. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 21, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the Fairlawn Church of God in Fairlawn, with Rev. Joseph Strazzire and Rev. Jim Angle officiating. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Kendall Funeral Home, Pembroke. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- HUFF, Ralph Hugh, 79, of Riner, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2001 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was a businessman, farmer and owner of Huff & Huff Excavating. He was a World War II veteran, having served in Company E of 134th Infantry. He served in the battles and campaigns of Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe with the rank of TEC 5. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Matt and Mancie Huff, a brother, Mark Huff and a sister, Elva Dalton. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Otha Mildred Huff, Riner; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Dean Mannon, Salem; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Darlene Huff, Allen and Kathy Huff, Alfred and Susan Huff, all of Riner; four loved grandchildren, Kerri, Jamie, Marceline and Lindsey Huff; brother and sister-in-law, Guy and Velta Huff, Dugspur; and sister, Hassie Moore, Dugspur. Funeral services will be 11 .am. Friday at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd, with the Rev. Philip Ayers and the Rev. Vinton Quesenberry officiating. She was born in Montgomery County, Virginia on January 24, 1928 to the late James Henry and Lizzie Eaves Jones. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Viola B. Stewart, Thelma D. Eaves, Constance Jones and Iris C. Hamilton, three brothers, Henderson Jones, Samuel Jones and Paul Jones. She is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Alex and Lillian Jones of Detroit, Mich.; and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. A graveside service will be conducted Saturday, April 21, 2001 at 12 noon in the Wake Forest Cemetery, McCoy with Rev. Oscar Sherman officiating. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- STEWART, David Preston, 63, of 1120 Forest Ave., Radford, Va., died Monday, April 16, 2001. He was born on April 24, 1937, the son of Lucille Stewart. Survivors include a daughter, Nicholle Stewart of Greensboro, N.C.; two sons, David Stewart of Atlanta, Ga. and Charles Bickett of Dublin, Va. Funeral services will be held at Zion Hill Baptist Church on Saturday, April 21, 2001 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. H. A. Lindsey officiating. Wake one hour prior to service. Burial will be in Sunrise Cemetery. Visitation one hour prior to service. He was a retired employee of Hercules Inc., and was a veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl W. Stoots and Emma Smart Stoots. Surviving are his wife Hazel G. Stoots, Parrott; a daughter, Tammy Goins, Triune, Tenn.; three sons, William Stoots, Jr., Pulaski, Barry Stoots, Dublin and Carl Edward Stoots, Parrott; and two sisters, Rachael McCoy, McCoy and Almeda Ratcliffe, Radford; five grandchildren, Heather Payne, Sabrina Meadows, Erika Stoots, Daniela Stoots, and Carl Stoots; along with two great-grandchildren, Kayla Meadows and Hillary White, also survive. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2001 at the Parrott Church of God, with Rev. Eddie Dalton, Rev. W. O. Myers, and Rev. Maude Cherry officiating.
