New River Obituaries ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- CONNER, Jabe Harmon, 93, of Floyd, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2001 at New River Valley Medical Center. Surviving are his wife, Milley Belcher Conner of Floyd; daughters and sons-in-law, Irene and Hanson Goad of Dugspur, Mary and Waymon Wood of Vesta, Esther Conner of Meadows of Dan, Rachel Conner, Rebecca Conner Sowers of Floyd, Susie and David Hickman of Eden N.C.; sons and daughters-in-law, Henry Conner of Martinsville, Jabe and Kathy Conner, Lee Conner, James Conner, Glen and Susan Conner of Floyd; twenty grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Clyde Bishop and Rev. Mac Cassell officiating. Burial will be in the Conner Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Maberry Funeral Home. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- CROCKETT, Victoria Sue, 47, of 218 Pinewood Drive in Pearisburg, died Monday evening, April 9, 2001 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Pembroke. Born in Giles County on February 15, 1954, she was a daughter of the late Charles Henderson and Mildred Johnston Pack. "Vickie" was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and employed at the Celanese Celco Plant at Narrows where she served as a Special Rate Operator, EMT, and on the fire brigade. She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Crockett; two daughters and sons-in-law, Leigh and Isiah O'Neal of Ft. Bragg, N.C. and Jennifer and Tim Chapman of Pembroke; a stepdaughter, Carol Lidgard of Lynchburg; a sister, Dana Lee Randal of Staffordsville; and six precious grandchildren, Chad Chapman, Evan Lidgard, Audrey Akers, Charles Akers, Caleb O'Neal and Brandon Chapman. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, New River Ward in Pembroke with Bishop John Cosgriff presiding. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke Friday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- HIXON, Samuel Earl, 68, of Floyd, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at the home of his brother and sister-in-law, David and Teresa Hixon. He was born September 29, 1932 to the late William H. and Mackie M. Hixon. He is survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Ruben and Janice Hixon, William H., Jr. and Rachel Hixon, all of Christiansburg, James and Emma Jean Hixon of Radford, Kenneth and Marie Hixon of Baltimore, Md.; sisters and brother-in-law, Ruby Wood, Helen Sutherland, Dorothy Harvey, all of Christiansburg, Lucille Bateman of Cleveland, Ohio, Erma Frierson of Baltimore, Md., Barbara and Edward Thompson of Ceres, Va.; one sister-in-law, Eleanor Hixon of Christiansburg. He is also survived by a special great-nephew and hunting partner, Matt Hixon; also numerous other nieces and nephews. Sam loved the woods, wildlife and the great outdoors. He was a life member of VFW Post #4667, a veteran of the Korean Conflict, as well as a member of the Open Door Baptist Church in Christiansburg. The family would like to express special thanks to the nurses and doctors of Hospice who took such good care of Sam. Funeral services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Open Door Baptist Church with Rev. Barry Fleming and Rev. Sam Hancock officiating with interment to follow in Sunset Cemetery. She was born April 18, 1928 at Eggleston, Va. the daughter of the late William Robert and Georgie Anna Jackson Stephens. In addition to parents, she was also preceded in death by brothers, Clyde and Paul Stephens; sisters, Gladys Stephens and Nannie S. Sadler. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Pearisburg. She is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Elmer and Nancy Stephens, Hampton, Ralph and Mildred Stephens, Eggleston, Rhoda Ellen Stephens, Eggleston, Marian Stephens, New Castle; special nieces and nephews, Richard Stephens, Joyce Vest, Cathy Hodges, Patty Lindstrom, Deborah Maddox, Wayne Stephens, Judy Hutchison, Jimmy Stephens, Karen Zorumski.
