A memorial service will be held Monday, April 16, 2001 at 10 a.m. in the St. Michael Lutheran Church with Pastor Linda Mitchell officiating. A memorial will also be held in the St. Peters Lutheran Church, Clear Spring, Md. at a later date. Arrangements by Stevens Funeral Home, Inc., Pulaski. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- JOHNSTON, Dorothy Henritze, (Dot), 86, of Narrows, died Saturday, April 14, 2001. She was born in Welch, W.Va. on October 4, 1914 and was the daughter of the late Thomas S. and Mary Tupper Henritze. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Byron L. "Tubby" Johnston and sister, Helen H. Pritchard. She is survived by a sister, Mary Jane Hawkins, Roanoke. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, April 17, 2001 in Fairview Cemetery, Narrows, with the Rev. Chris Michael officiating. There will be no public viewing. Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows is in charge of arrangements. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- LUCAS, Ashley Armstrong, 96, of Prices Fork, died Sunday, April 15, 2001. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- SARVER, Ethel Mae Guthrie, (Mae), 83, of Ironto, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 14, 2001 at Lewis-Gale Medical Center, Salem. She was born on May 17, 1917 in Montgomery County to the late Ben and Essie Guthrie. Her husband, Houston M. Sarver; sisters, Effie Barton and Addie Fried; brother, Albert Guthrie; and two infant brothers, preceded her in death. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Virgil and Colleen Sarver of Ironto, E. Michael and Linda Sarver of Ridgeway; one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Theodore Bradford of Ironto; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Cook, Clarsie Furrow, and Margaret Thompson; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend special thanks to those at Richfield who cared for her and the nurses at Lewis-Gale who cared for her in her final hours. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2001 at the Horne Funeral Chapel conducted by the Rev. Billy Wells and Mr. E. Michael Sarver, II officiating with burial to following Hall's Cemetery, Ironto. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evening at Horne Funeral Service, Christiansburg. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- SHEPPARD, Kathleen King Smith, 69, of Riner, went to be with the Lord Saturday, April 14, 2001 at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse F. Sheppard and a son, Olen G. Smith. She owned and operated Gateway Restaurant in Radford for 30 years and was retired from Auburn High School and Middle School Cafeteria Staff. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Jack D. and Peggy Smith of Riner; a sister, Wilma Geokas of Radford; a brother, Stanley King of Dublin; four grandsons and a special granddaughter, David and Lisa Smith of East Prarie, Mo., Tim Smith of Riner, Freddie and J.C. Smith of Maryville, Tenn.; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2001 at the DeVilbiss Funeral Chapel with interment to follow in Highland Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 16, 2001 at the DeVilbiss Funeral Home, Radford.
