New River Obituaries ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- GOING, Romalda Whitesel, 77, of Pearisburg, passed away Friday, April 27, 2001, in Princeton, W.Va. Mrs. Going was born in Buena Vista and was a daughter of the late Robert L. and Pearl Egolf Whitesel. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William E. "Pete" Going. Mrs. Going was a graduate of Parry McCluer High School and Jefferson Hospital School of Nursing in Roanoke. Mrs. Going retired as the school health nurse with the Giles County School System. Mrs. Going is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah Going and Milt Hankins of Pearisburg. Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, 2001, at the Green Hill Cemetery in Buena Vista with the Rev. Dr. L. Milton Hankins officiating. Friends may sign the book at the Givens Funeral Home in Pearisburg, on Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m. Friends may call on the family, Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m. at their home at 1002 Mountain Lake Ave., Pearisburg. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- SPENCE, Hazel Sowers, 73, of Willis, passed away Friday, April 27, 2001 at New River Valley Medical Center. She was a retired school teacher with the Floyd County School System. Survivors include her husband, Fray J. Spence, Willis; stepdaughter and husband, Rosalie and Kermit Martin, Floyd; stepson, Roland Spence, Christiansburg; sister-in-law, Larmie Sowers, Willis; nephews, Dwayne Sowers, Timothy Sowers, Willis. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday April 29, 2001 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd with Rev. Kenneth Poston officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Willis. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Maberry Funeral Home. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- WEBB, Ralph Edward, 64, of 225 Flanagan Avenue, Dublin, died Friday morning, April 27, 2001 at his home. He was born in Allisonia on January 18, 1937, and was the son of the late Hobie Webb and Josie Landreth Webb. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Alma Henley Webb and a grandson, Derrick Felts. He was a retired employee of Pulaski Furniture Corp., Dublin with 40 years of service. Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Joyce Webb of Dublin, Randy and Sherry Webb of Dublin; sister, Vicie Bryant of Richmond; two brothers, Ernest Webb of Richmond and David Webb of Lewiston, Pa.; mother-in-law, Mary Henley of Max Meadows; grandchildren, Chas Felts of Dublin, Jabe Largen of Draper, Tony Huff of Pulaski, Jessica Webb of Dublin, Sierra Webb of Dublin, Dylan Webb of Dublin. Funeral service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. from Stevens Funeral Chapel with Dr. C. R. Conner and Rev. Margaret Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in Hufford Cemetery, Pulaski County. Visiting will be Sunday evening from the funeral home where the family wishes that memorials be made to the NRV Hospice, 707 Randolph Street - Suite 251, Radford, Virginia 24141. The family will be meeting at the residence of the son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Joyce Webb, 117 6TH Street, Dublin. Arrangements by Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- WILLIAMS, Luther Ervin, 87, of Shawsville, died Thursday, April 26, 2001. He was born March 10, 1914 in Montgomery County, a son of the late George and Gennie Wheeling Williams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Oakley Williams, Nathan Williams and Frank Williams; six sisters, Callie Hall, Bertha Martin, Effie Martin Baker, Martha Palmer, Almeda Creasy Sutphin, Mary Rogers. Surviving are his devoted wife of 63 years, Margaret Richardson Williams; a son and daughter-in-law, Freddie W. and Nina Williams of Collinsville; a daughter and son-in-law, Julia W. and Clyde "Danny" Sisson of Shawsville; five grandchildren and spouses, Darrell L. and Judy Williams of Covington, Kimberly S. and Charles Wells of Roanoke, Sharon W. Edwards of Winston-Salem, N.C., William B. and Catherine Sisson of Hattiesburg, Miss., Timothy E. Sisson of Shawsville; and ten great-grandchildren. Other survivors include one brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Roxie Williams of Shawsville; one sister-in-law, Velvie Williams Graham of Shawsville; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Mr. Williams was a skilled carpenter and retired from the maintenance department at Hercules "Alliant Tech", Radford. He was faithful to his church and was instrumental in the construction of the Sanctuary at the First Church of God, Christiansburg. He also served the church as Youth Leader, member of the choir, Board of Trustees and Church Council. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, April 30, 2001, at 11 a.m., at the First Church of God with the Rev. Max Nichols officiating. Burial will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m., Sunday, April 29, 2001 at Horne Funeral Service. The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to Housecall Home Healthcare, staff and special friends at Richfield Nursing Center, and Gentle Shepherd Hospice.
