Arrangements by Lotz Funeral Home, Salem. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- PALMER, Odell William, 83, of Christiansburg, Virginia, departed this life on Tuesday, April 24, 2001 at the Montgomery Regional Hospital after a long illness. He was born September 5, 1918 in Columbus, Ohio and moved to Riner, Va. at an early age. He was the son of the late George and Mary Julia Palmer. He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Christiansburg, Virginia where he served as Sunday School Superintendent. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army, W.W.II. He was a retired employee of the R.A.A.P. with over thirty years of service. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 59 years, Pauline West Palmer of the home; one daughter Barbara (Fred) McKenzie of Somerset, N.J.; three sons, Allen (Roxie) Palmer, Odell (Patricia) Palmer, Jr. and Phillip Dean Palmer; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Viola Withers of Philadelphia, Pa., Lucille Mowbray of Wilmington, Del. and Eileen Slaughter of Philadelphia, Pa.; and a host of other relatives and friends. It was Mr. Odell Palmer's wish that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Building Fund of the Asbury United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be Saturday, April 28, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the Asbury United Methodist Church, Stuart Street, Christiansburg, Va. with the Reverend John Price officiating. Burial will be at the Schaeffer Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1 p.m. until time of service. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 26 at the Horne Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Thomas Rice with interment to follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. Arrangements by Horne Funeral Service. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Roope, Emily Alverta Lawson Oct. 28, 1902 - April 24, 2001 of Christiansburg, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001 in Kroontji Health Care Center. Mrs. Roope was a faithful member of St Paul United Methodist Church. The daughter of the late John H. and Laura Sheppard Lawson, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry L. Roope, Sr., sons, H. L. Roope, Jr. and Glennard J. Roope, daughters, Edna Roope Case and Marie Roope Moran, brothers, Ben Lawson, Arnold Lawson and John Lawson. She is also preceded in death by her sisters, Martha Davis, Flora Bryant and Catherine Heasley. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Louise R. and Ralph Quesenberry; son and daughter-in-law, James W. and Shelby Roope, all of Christiansburg; five grandchildren, Jamie M. Bond and her husband, Wendell, James Jay Moran, all of Christiansburg, John W. Roope and his wife, Cindy of Quencey, Ill., Jennie G. Stewart of Greenville, Tenn., Kimberly R. Brumfield and her husband, Steve of Christiansburg. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Wesley, Winston, Abigail, Tabitha, Joshua, Kelly and Evan, brothers, Sam Lawson of Mississippi and Jack Lawson of Maryland. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2001 at the Horne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m Friday, April 27, 2001 in the Horne Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Doug Kanney and the Rev. R. G. Quesenberry officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery. The family would like to express their appreciation to the nursing staff at Kroontji Health Care Center for the care given to Mrs. Roope.
