He was a member of Floyd United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by his father, George Daniel Boon, Sr. He is survived by his beloved wife, Diane Boon of Pilot; mother, Margery Boon of Ocala, Fla.; daughter and son-in-law, Kelly Ann and Maj. Paul Pardew; grandchildren, Joshua Daniel Pardew and Virginia Ann Pardew, all of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Charles Cook of Ocala, Fla.; brother and sister-in-law, Wyndham and Susan Boon of North Canton, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews, aunt, uncles, and cousins. Dan Boon's love for animals led to a career in veterinary medicine. He received his D.V.M. from Colorado State University in 1969 and M.S. in Clinical Pathology, 1974, also from Colorado State University. Dr. Boon authored and co-authored many refereed articles published in scientific journals. He also co-authored and edited several books on various aspects of veterinary medicine. Widely respected in the field of veterinary medicine, particularly clinical pathology, Dan Boon held appointments at several universities. At the time of his death, Dr. Boon was Associate Professor and Section Chief, Clinical Pathology, Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, Virginia Tech, in Blacksburg, Va. Dr. Boon was a tenured professor at Perdue University in West Lafayette, Ind. and from 1977-1989 he held various faculty, research, and service positions in the Department of Veterinary Medicine at Purdue University, including Director of the Veterinary Clinical Pathology Laboratory and Head of the Pathology Section, Department of Pathobiology. Dr. Boon was Adjunct Associate Professor, Veterinary Clinical Pathology, Department of Veterinary Microbiology, Pathology and Public Health, at Perdue University 1989-present. He also tenured at Mississippi State University in Starkville, Miss. Dr. Boon served as Professor of Veterinary Clinical Pathology in the Department of Basic and Applied Sciences at MSU in 1989 and 1990. From 1992-1997, Dr. Boon served as Director of the Clinical Pathology Laboratory, Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory, University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri. He was also Associate Professor and Section Leader, Veterinary Clinical Pathology, Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory at University of Missouri. Dr. Boon was a member of several professional and scientific societies including American Society for Veterinary Clinical Pathology and American Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Boon's honors and awards include Phi Zeta 1968, Phi Kappa Phi 1969, Sigma Xi 1984, and C.L. Davis Foundation, Life Member, 1992. An avid outdoorsman, Dan Boon was an amateur botanist and naturalist. He enjoyed golf and shooting, and was an accomplished chef and gardener. His many talents, his cheerful spirit, and his delightful sense of humor will be remembered with great fondness by his family and friends, colleagues, and students across the country. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 23, 2001 at Floyd United Methodist Church in Floyd with the Rev. Richard Gregory officiating. Arrangements by Maberry Funeral Home of Floyd. Burial will be Thursday, April 26, 2001 at 3 p.m. at Double Springs Cemetery in Maben, Miss. Arrangements by Welch Funeral Home of Starkville, Miss. The body will be taken to the home Sunday morning where the family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- DeHART, Glennis D., 80, of Floyd, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 20, 2001, after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was a longtime member of Floyd Baptist Church, where she faithfully attended. She was the daughter of the late Lewis and Martha Duncan. Mrs. DeHart was preceded in death by her husband, James Edgar DeHart, and her sister, Virgie Izola Cooper. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Eula Ellen and James Midkiff of Floyd, Connie and Reif Bond of Indian Valley; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Shirley Duncan of Floyd; seven grandchildren, Randal and Diane Midkiff, Ronnie and Joyce Midkiff, Larry and Jennifer Midkiff, Stacy and Bryant Thompson, all of Floyd, Chris Bond, Lisa Bond, Sheena Bond, all of Indian Valley; two great-grandsons, Jeremy Midkiff and Bradley Midkiff; a very special friend, Margaret Conner. Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 22, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the Floyd Baptist Church with Rev. Matthew Brown and Dr. Alton Griffin officiating. Interment will follow in Jacksonville Cemetery. Friends may call after 12 noon Saturday at Gardner Funeral Home where the family will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Gardner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- ENDICOTT, William Albert, 94, of 4890 Newbern Road Pulaski, died Friday evening April 20, 2001 in Pulaski Community Hospital. Born February 8, 1907 in Job, Ky. He was the son of the late Joshua J. Endicott and Alice Justice Endicott. Mr. Endicott was a graduate from Pikeville College and then taught several years in the Kentucky School System. He later taught one year in the Maryland School System and retired in 1972 after teaching 26 years in the Pulaski County School System, ending his career in the Dublin High School. After retirement he operated Endicott's Green House until 1983. From 1952 until his death he was a member of the Newbern Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where he served as the Elder and Member of the Board of Trustees. He was a 53 year member of Henry Clay Lodge #280 A.F.&A.M., and a member of the New River Historical Society, a past member of the Newbern Community Club and the Pulaski County Retired Teachers Association. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Thelma King Endicott; two daughters and a son-in-law, Wilhelmina Ann (Billie) and Fred Perrine of King George, Va. and Yvonne Endicott of Bland, Va.; one sister, Beulah E. Flack of Louisville, Ky.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ray and Mary Jo Endicott of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Arthur and Irene Endicott of Tomahawk, Ky.; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth K. Wagoner of Pulaski and Della K. Charlton of Christiansburg; two grandsons, Christopher Scott Perrine of Singapore and Nicholas Andrew Perrine of King George. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert E. Wallace officiating. Interment will follow in Newbern Cemetery where Masonic Graveside Rites will be performed by members of Henry Clay Lodge. Visiting will be Sunday anytime after 1 p.m. at Thomas M. Box 373 Newbern, Va. 24126. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- MARSICO, Marshall Maxwell, 79, of Christiansburg, died Friday, April 20, 2001 at New River Valley Medical Center. She is survived by her son and his fiancee, Wayne Marsico and Delores of Shawsville; one granddaughter, Stephanie Nicole Marsico of New York; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Myrtle Maxwell of Christiansburg; sister, Pauline McDonald of Portland, Ore.; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Marshall's home at 4265 Wayside Drive on Tuesday, April 24, 2001 from 4 to 8 p.m. The family request in lieu of flowers that contributions be made to the Christiansburg Rescue Squad, Box 176, Christiansburg, Va. 24073. Arrangements are being handled by Horne Funeral Service. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- ROBINSON, Jewell Burnett, 83, passed away Friday, April 20, 2001 at her home in Radford. She was a member of Fairlawn Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Robinson. Survivors include three sons and daughter-in-laws, John William and Pansy Robinson of Radford, Roy L. and Pam Robinson of Lake of the Woods, and David H. and Donna Robinson of Waynesboro; a daughter, Dorothy Duncan of Christiansburg; a brother, John Burnett of Saltville; two sisters and brother-in-law, Beulah Jackson of Christiansburg and Billie and Gasper Henley of Elgon, Maryland; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 23, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with Rev. James Garland and Rev. Joseph Strazzire officiating. Interment will follow in West View Cemetery in Radford. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Agency of Aging. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- STAFFORD, Herman Cyrus, 79, of the Trigg Community in Giles County, passed away at his home on Friday, April 20, 2001 after a long illness. Mr. Stafford was born on May 23, 1921 in Burton and was the son of the late Robert C. and Bertha Jennelle Stafford. Mr. Stafford was a member of Wesley's Chapel United Methodist Church where he served in various capacities during his lifetime. He was a member of Eggleston Lodge # 309 A.F. & A.M., and an Army Veteran of WWII, having served with the 350th Airdrome Squadron in Burma and India . He was an active member of the the American Legion and V.F.W. Post 6000. Known for his love of Bluegrass music and the 5 string banjo, he represented this organization by performing with other musicians in local retirement homes, nursing homes and hospitals, including the Veteran's Hospital in Roanoke, Va. He continued performing until the final stage of his illness. His quick wit and unique personality will be missed by his family and friends. Mr. Stafford is survived by his wife Mozelle (Mozie) Williams Stafford of Trigg; three daughters, Betsy S. Wood of Pearisburg, Diane S. Atwell of Narrows, Rhonda S. Carter of Simpsonville, S.C.; one sister, Louise S. Johnston of Trigg; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and inumerable friends. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, April 23, 2000 at 2 p.m. at Wesley's Chapel United Methodist in Trigg, with the Rev. David Olinger officiating, followed with interment in Birchlawn Burial Park with the Narrows American Legion Post #68, Pembroke American Legion Post # 311 and Narrows VFW Post #6000 providing Military Honors. The family will receive friends at Wesley's Chapel United Methodist Church Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. There will be a Masonic evening service Sunday at 7 p.m. at the church. She was born in England on February 8, 1931 to the late Leslie and May Gaskin of England. She was a well loved woman who had a great passion for life and a dedication to the well being of animals and birds. She is survived by her three children, two daughters, Gail F. Robert and Lesley J. Michie; one son, Peter D. Croot, all of Canada; four grandchildren, Alexi Robert, Nicholas Robert, Caitria Michie, Alexander Michie. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
