Alderman points out that he is really William. There is a William and Susannah Hurst in that census, but they are William Hurst, the son of Thomas Hurst and Jemima Breeding of Pulaski, and Susannah Nester. They soon moved to Mercer County. The real Joseph Hurst was in Wythe County in 1850; I believe he was the Carroll County William's brother. Yep, F.C. was Fugate Clark Hurst (14 Dec 1887 - 30 Aug 1963) married to Rosa Emily Quesenberry (1887 - 1971). I have tombstone photo from Oakwood. Also, James Ballard Hurst's paternal great grandparents were William Hurst and Rachel Cummins who married in Loudoun County on 22 Jan 1798. I believe William was in the 1810 Montgomery County census, then in the 1820 and 1830 Wythe censuses. He lived on Big Reed Island Creek in what's now Pulaski, buying land from Francis Allison and William Lindsey. His estate was inventoried in Pulaski on 5 Dec 1839. Bill Hurst
