The death certificate of my grandfather, David Sears Whitt, lists his father as James L. Whitt (mother, Elmira _____) from Virginia. The only James L. Whitt I have found is listed in 1850/1860 Pulaski County census. He enlisted in Co. E 24th Virginia Infantry on 27 May 1861 at Lynchburg and died of pneumonia on 12 Feb 1862, in Richmond.
