New River Obituaries ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- MOREHEAD, Lloyd Thomas, 79, of McCoy, died Sunday, June 3, 2001 at Montgomery Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 6, 2001 at 2 p.m. in the Community Christian Church with Mr. James O. Flaugher officiating. Interment will follow in the Centennial Christian Church Cemetery, McCoy. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- SPEAKS, Brianna Kelsey, infant daughter of Steven and Nikki Speaks of Elliston, died Monday, June 4, 2001. She is also survived by her brother, Tyler Speaks of Elliston; paternal grandparents, Richard and Deborah Carroll of Elliston; maternal grandparents, Don and Tammy Epperly of Blacksburg, Eddie Keaton of Blacksburg; paternal great-grandparents Peggy Potts of Ellison; maternal great-grandparents, Bruce and Shirley Raines of Christiansburg, Clyde and Rosa Keaton of West Virginia, and Inez Epperly of Blacksburg. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, June 7, 2001 at 3:30 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Barry Fleming officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery, Blacksburg. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- TOWN, Arthur Earl, (Retired Lt. Colonel US Army), 83, of Blacksburg, died Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at his home. He was born in Mt. Pleasant, Mich. on August 11, 1917 to the late Earl and Florence Smith Town. He served in the US Army during WWII and Korea. He was a long-standing member of the Lions Club as well as serving with the Kiwanis and the Civil Conservation Corp. in Michigan. His work took him from the advent of radar through work with the guidance system of the Polaris and Poseidon missile system. He and his wife, Opal, settled in Chester Gap, Va. after his retirement and trailered together for 15 years before her passing. He is survived by his daughter, Janet G. Town of Blacksburg; three sisters, Florine Jeannin of Deerborn, Mich., Theola McPherson of Tucson, Ariz., Carol Rose Hatcher of Flint, Mich.; one sister-in-law, Helen Town of Clare, Mich.; special niece, Verna Levantrosser of North Marrick, N.Y.; and many more devoted nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 7, 2001 at 1 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tom Rice officiating. Graveside service will be held in the Panorama Memorial Gardens, Strasburg, Va. at 11 a.m. Friday, June 8, 2001. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 12 noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the New River Valley Hospice, 111 W. Main Street, Christiansburg, Va. 24073 or the Chester Gap First Department, Chester Gap, Va. 24076.
