    3. New River Obituaries ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- ERICKSON, Virginia Gee, of Blacksburg, Va., died Thursday, June 21, 2001, in Roanoke. A native of Kenbridge, Va., she taught school in Virginia and North Carolina for several years followed by four years of secretarial services with a Richmond law firm. She was a member of Grove United Methodist Church in Radford for 49 years. Survivors include her husband, Ira H. Erickson of Blacksburg; her niece, Mary Drew Ivey of Virginia Beach; her nephew, Bracey Dennis Gee, Jr. of Danville; grand nephew, Christopher Gee; grand nieces, Pamela Anne Ivey and Mary Jill Castle; a great-grand niece and two great-grand nephews. Graveside funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26, 2001, in the Kenbridge Heights Cemetery, Kenbridge. Clarke Funeral Home, Kenbridge, is in charge of services. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- LONG, Lena Goodwin, 96, of Elliston, passed away Friday, June 22, 2001, in a Roanoke hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow; and grandson, David Long, II; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.M. Goodwin; five brothers and three sisters. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, William R. (Bill) and June Long of Salem, David F. and Lorene Saunders Long of Roanoke; grandchildren, Bob Long and Patsy Long of Blacksburg, Amy and husband, Mark Ebel of Roanoke; great-grandchildren, William and Courtney Long of Blacksburg, Alexandra and Nicole Ebel of Roanoke; sisters, Ruth Gresham and Naomi Dent of Salem; sisters-in-law, Treva Reese and husband, Earl, Pauline Hoover and husband, Ed; brother-in-law, Robert Waters; a number of nieces and nephews. She was one of the remaining three of the Salem High School class of 1924 which had a reunion every year. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 25, 2001, at 2 p.m. in the Lotz Salem Chapel with interment at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the Lotz Salem Chapel. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- PSATHAS, Bonnie Bateman, 68, of Pearisburg, passed away Friday evening in Pulaski County Hospital. Mrs. Psathas was born on November 27, 1932 in Red Sulphur Springs, W.Va. and was a daughter of the late Oscar Bateman and Thelma Ellison Bateman. Mrs. Psathas grew up in Ballard, W.Va. and graduated from Peterstown High School. Mrs. Psathas was a former employee of Hercules and had helped her husband run Capitol Cafe in Pearisburg for the last 30 years. Besides her mother, she is survived by her husband, Bill G. Psathas, Sr. of Pearisburg; one son, Bill G. Psathas, Jr. of Pearisburg; 1 daughter, Amy Jo Psathas of Christiansburg; one sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Willie Overton of Baltic, Conn.; two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a very close friend, Ethel Shrader. Funeral services will be conducted Monday June 25, 2001 at 2 p.m. in the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with the Rev. Todd Millsaps officiating with burial to follow in the Orchard Cemetery in Ballard, W.Va. The family will receive friends Sunday evening at the Givens Funeral Home from 6 to 9 p.m. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- REESE, Elizabeth Bouldin, A memorial service will be held for Elizabeth B. Reese at 10:30 a.m. on the morning of Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at Sunrise Burial Park in Fairlawn, Virginia. Mrs. Reese and her husband, Asa Whitney Reese, were longtime residents of Radford, Virginia. He preceded her in death in 1967. Survivors include her only daughter, Ann Reese Dye and her husband, Albert of Roswell, New Mexico; and a sister, Frances Bouldin Barnard of Clearwater, Florida. She had three granddaughters, Denise Wilemon of Midland, Texas, Deborah Shattuck of Boise, Idaho, and Diana Cottle of Ann Arbor, Michigan. She had two great-granddaughters, Sarah Whitney Wilemon and Meredith Ann Wilemon of Midland, Texas. Mrs. Reese, who had made her home in South Carolina for approximately twenty years, moved to Roswell, New Mexico, in 1997. It was there that she died on January 30, 2001. It was her wish to be laid to rest with her husband, brother, and parents in Sunrise. Mrs. Reese's family wish to extend an invitation to those who are able to attend the memorial service to meet with them following the service at the Best Western in Radford for a luncheon honoring the life of a lovely lady. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Local content copyright © 2001 The Roanoke Times Out of State WHEELER, Judith Saunders, 50, of 809 Berkley Road, Columbus, Ohio, died Saturday, June 16, 2001 in Columbus Ohio. in Williamson, Virginia to the late Ernest B. Saunders, and Evelyn Small Claytor and stepfather, Archie H. Claytor. She is survived by her spouse, Charles Wheeler, Columbus, Ohio; one son, Mario D. Claytor and wife, Liaina of South Carolina; three brothers, Dwight A. Saunders, San Diego, Calif., Richard A. Saunders and wife Lynn, Apple Valley, Minn., and Steven V. Saunders and wife, Janice, Tampa, Fla. Funeral services will be conducted from Zion Hill Baptist Church 1 p.m. Monday, June 25, 2001 with the Rev. Henry Lindsey officiating. Burial to follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be one from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Arrangements by Claytor-Dean Funeral Home.
