Funeral 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Reese Funeral Home Chapel in Austinville. Visitation Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- COX, Simon Jackson, 65, of Shawsville, passed away Saturday, June 23, 2001. He was a former employee of Roanoke Electric Steel and had many fond memories of his association with his fellow co-workers. He loved to hunt and fish and it was a pleasure to fellowship with his friends, for he felt as they were also his family. Surviving are his wife, Ann M. Cox of Shawsville; a son and four daughters and their spouses, Elizabeth Ann and Eddie Lawson of Shawsville, Linda Darnell Hilton of Blacksburg, Dwayne and Stephanie Cox of Shawsville, Missy R. Gardner of Roanoke, Samantha Anne Cox, at home; a stepdaughter, Vivian and Randy Poff of Troutville; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren; one stepgrandson, Todd Lawson; one god-son, Bryan Shane Ferrell; two brothers and two sisters and their spouses, Alton and Blanche Cox of Christiansburg, Lois and Kent Hylton of Floyd, Joyce and Billy Quesenberry of Willis, Billy Cox of Willis; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services 2 p.m. Thursday at Wood Funeral Home in Floyd, with the Rev. Roy Turpin officiating. Interment in Ambrose Cox Memorial Cemetery, Willis. Friends may call anytime Thursday at Wood Funeral Home, where the family will be from 7 to 9 p.m. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- DENNIS, Russell Jr., (Hot Rod), 58, of Rich Creek, died suddenly Monday, June 25, 2001, in the Princeton Community Hospital, Princeton, W.Va. A lifelong resident of Giles County, he was born on June 8, 1943, and was the son of Mrs. Lucille Ratcliffe Dennis, Pearisburg, and the late Russell Dennis, Sr. He was a graduate of the Old Pearisburg High School, Pearisburg. Hot Rod enjoyed his family, he loved to coach Little League Football at Rich Creek, and enjoyed racing his number 46 racing car at the New River Valley Speedway in Pulaski. He was a die hard Redskin fan, he loved his Virginia Tech Hokie's Football team, and most of all, his Narrows High School Green Waves. He followed the late Dale Earnhardt during his racing career. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 41 years, Patricia Sparks Dennis; two daughters and their husbands, Allison and Jimmy Falls, Sabrina and Johnny Gautier, both of Narrows; a brother, Thomas "Jim" Dennis, Pearisburg; a sister, Janice Sargent, Pearisburg; and four grandchildren, Heath Fleeman, Peterstown, Nikki and Krista Gautier, Narrows, and Kat Falls, Bland. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 28, 2001, in the Chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows with Tony Reed, Minister, officiating. Burial will follow in Sunrise Memorial Gardens, Rich Creek.
