New River Obituaries ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- CANNADAY, Sarah Allen McConnell, 62, of Christiansburg and Southwest Roanoke, died Tuesday morning, June 19, 2001 at a Blacksburg health care center. She was a teacher in the Virginia public school system and was preceded in death by her husband, William Harold Cannaday. Surviving are her parents, Grady and Gladys B. McConnell, Christiansburg; a son, William Grady Cannaday of Roanoke; a sister and brother-in-law, Emily Sue and Jake Pope, Christiansburg. In lieu of flowers, it was her request that memorials be made to the Carilion Hospice of Roanoke, 1917 Franklin Road, Roanoke, Va. 24014 or the Carilion New River Valley Hospice, 111 West Main St., Christiansburg, Va. 24073. There will be no visitation nor public service. Arrangements are being handled by Horne Funeral Service, Christiansburg. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- EANES, John William Sr., 95, of Christiansburg, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2001 at the New River Valley Medical Center in Christiansburg. He was born in the Alleghany Springs section of Montgomery County, son of the late James Eanes and Elizabeth Wade Eanes. Mr. Eanes was a businessman in Christiansburg for over 60 years. He had served on the Christiansburg Town Council, was a 32nd degree mason, and owner of the local Oldsmobile dealership for over 20 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Ridpath Eanes and an infant son, Ronald L. Eanes. Surviving are a daughter, Grace E. Meads, Birmingham, Ala.; a son, John W. Eanes, Jr. and wife, Judi Landrum Eanes of Christiansburg; three grandsons, Mark S. Slusher of Atlanta, Ga., John W. Eanes, III (Trey) of Smyrna, Ga. and J. Todd Eanes, Dillingham, Alaska; and four great-granddaughters. Friends may call anytime after noon Wednesday at the Horne Funeral Home and the family will receive friends there Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 21, 2001 in Sunset Cemetery conducted by Rev. Chuck McHose. McDaniel Lodge #86 AF & AM will hold graveside Masonic Rites. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospital, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, S.C. 29605. Horne Funeral Service is handling the arrangements. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- EAST, Roger Lee, 58, of Belspring, died Monday, June 18, 2001. Arrangements by DeVilbiss Funeral Home, Radford. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- HOUSE, Paul Compton, 72, of 510 Country Club Drive, Pearisburg, died Monday, June 18, 2001. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Wood House and Melba Compton House, two brothers, Robert Wood House, Jr. and William Albert House. Surviving are his wife, Gertrude Deakins House of Pearisburg; daughter and son-in-law, Judith House Neal and husband, Roger Glen Neal of Galax, Virginia; three granddaughters, Ashley Elizabeth Neal, Jennifer Leigh Neal and Jillian Brooke Neal, all of Galax, Virginia; one sister, Mary Wood House Smoot of Kingsport, Tennessee. He graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law, served in the United States Army as a Russian language interpreter, and was employed by E. I. duPont de Nemours Corp. of Wilmington, Delaware. Upon his retirement he moved to Pearisburg where he was a member of the Pearisburg First United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, June 23, 2001 at 1 p.m. in the Pearisburg First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charles Lockerby, Dr. Fred Austin and the Rev. Teresa Buckner officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Pearisburg First United Methodist Church, 1101 Valleyview Drive, Pearisburg, Virginia 24134. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- PRESCOTT, Virginia Cooper, 80, of Christiansburg, died Monday, June 18, 2001 at her home. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday June 20, 2001 at 1 p.m. in the Cambria Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Jerry Shepherd, the Rev. Jube Burke, and the Rev. Jerry Sloss officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery, Blacksburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Hospice, 3825 Electric Road, S.W., Suite A, Roanoke, Va. 24018.
