    3. New River Obituaries ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- COBB, Elizabeth Virginia, 83, formerly of Radford, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2001. Graveside services, 3 p.m. Saturday, Sunrise Burial Park, Radford. Arrangements by Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- DUNCAN, Hilda Bowles, 83, of 1674 Old Wolf Creek Road, Narrows, died Friday, March 2, 2001 in the Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, with her family at her side. A lifelong resident of Giles County, she was born on February 18, 1918 and was the daughter of the late Clayton and Bessie Gearheart Bowles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Everett Duncan; two brothers, Irvin Bowles, Jennings "Buddy" Bowles; three sisters, Lucille Bowles, Elaine Turner, Sylvia Dunford, and a baby son, Michael Bryant Duncan, and a brother-in-law, Paul Dunford who passed away on February 24, of this year. She was a faithful member and lay leader of the Kathleen Memorial Methodist Church where she held various positions in the church and at the time of her death, she was a Sunday School teacher. She was the secretary-treasurer of the Wolf Creek Friendship Club and was a Red Cross volunteer with the blood mobile for 35 years. During her lifetime, she worked as a sales lady in Clevengers Western Auto Store in Narrows, Romanus Department Store, and Coning Department at the Celanese Fibers Company Plant at Narrows, and the B & B Store of Narrows. Her main hobbies were hunting and fishing and she served as secretary for the Gicova Wild Life Club in Narrows for 22 years. She was a graduate of Narrows High School. She was a writer of poetry and had won many awards and ribbons for her writings. She was loved and respected by all who knew her. She is survived by two beloved children, her daughter, Sharon Bowles and her husband, Robert of Pembroke; a son, Edmond (Eddie) James Duncan, Winchester, Va.; a brother, A. Eugene Bowles and his wife, Kathryn, Narrows; three very special grandchildren, Timothy Bowles and his wife, Penny, Narrows, Krista Link and her husband, Oliver, Newport, Va., Mikeal Bowles and his wife, Lisa, Pembroke; six much loved great-grandchildren, Matthew and Mark Bowles, Narrows, Kayla and Clay Bowles, Pembroke, Christopher and April Link, Newport, Va.; two special sisters-in-law, Helen Fitzpatrick, Crab Orchard, W.Va., Billie Alley, Taylor, Mich.; a special friend, Steve Saulka, Winchester, Va. She leaves a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 4, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the Kathleen Memorial Methodist Church on Wolf Creek near Narrows with Rev. J.D. Clark and Rev. Doug Hyndrich officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Narrows. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3, at the Horne Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Max Nichols with burial to follow in Sunset Cemetery. Arrangements by Horne Funeral Service, Christiansburg. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- HESLEP, Moyer Condent, (Dick), 85, of Elliston, died Thursday, March 1, 2001 at Richfield Nursing Center, Salem. Born October 2, 1915, he was a lifelong resident of Elliston. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary S. Heslep; his daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Jerry Brammer of Wichita, Kansas; his sister-in-law, Arwilda L. Heslep; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 3, 2001 at the Grant E. Bryant Funeral Home, Elliston, with the Reverend Haywood Alcorn officiating. Born on October 3, 1934 in Giles County, he was a son of the late Raymond and Mary Williams Meredith. Since he was a very young man, he had been employed by the parent company of Mountain Lake Hotel and served in many capacities at Mountain Lake and at other hotels across America. He was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd "Bud" Meredith. He is survived by his wife, Connie Ayers Meredith of Cushing; two sons, Gary and wife, Wendi Meredith of Pearisburg and Barry and wife, Angela Meredith of Greensboro, N.C.; a daughter, Donnie Keale of Colorado Springs, Colorado; nine grandchildren, Kristen, Bradley and Adam Meredith, Brandon and Brian Keale, Lisa, John, Nikki, and Taylor Meredith; five sisters, Helen "Margie" Scott, Elsie Dowdy and JoAnne Eaton, all of Pearisburg, Dorence Simpson of Virginia Beach and Carol Morrison of Barboursville, W.Va.; two stepsons, Larky and Gary Williams; four stepgrandchildren, Josh and Chris Williams, Montana Priest and Misty May. Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, March 3, 2001 in Faith Baptist Church in Cushing, Oklahoma. A local memorial service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements by Horne Funeral Service. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- WEBB, Virginia Johnson, 100, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 27, 2001, at the Asbury Center at Birdmont Nursing Home in Wytheville. She was born December 25, 1900, in Pulaski, the daughter of the late Lee and Francis Poole Johnson. She was one of the first members of Pentecostal United Holiness Church and a devoted servant of the Lord. She was a saved faithful member of the church who participated in every church activity. She was a member of the senior choir and a missionary worker who encouraged many to seek the Lord. She was preceded in death by her husband, Moses Webb, Sr.; and two sons, Samuel Webb and Moses Webb, Jr. Surviving are five sons, Alvin Webb, Jersey City, N.J., Robert Webb of Elizabeth, N.J., James "Jim" (Janice) Webb of Cleveland, Ohio, David (Hazel) Webb of Pulaski, Clarence (Ruth) Webb of Dublin; eight daughters, Mary Bruce and Yvonne (Harvey) Black of Pulaski, Edith Fuqua of New Brunswick, N.J., Arvella Smith and Margaret Thompson of Roanoke, Della Rembrant of Cleveland, Ohio, Drema (Herbert) Curbeam of Ocala, Fla., and Elizabeth Tyler of Washington, D.C.; one sister-in-law, Urah Miller of Philadelphia, Pa.; 65 grandchildren; 128 great-grandchildren; 35 great-great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Funeral service will be Monday, March 5, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Magazine Street, Pulaski, with Elder Arnold Jones officiating. Burial will be at the Pinehurst Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the United Holy Church, Johnson Street, Pulaski. Penn's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
